My work encompasses dating, intimacy, couples, marriage, and parenting concerns, physical, sexual, and narcissistic abuse, dissociated states, nervous system regulation, and trauma recovery, problems with anxiety, depression, feelings of meaninglessness, true self emergence, college mental health, and treating physicians and mental health professionals.
I provide a warm and safe yet dynamic environment in which my clients express their innermost thoughts, gain insight, heal wounds and learn to live with more confidence, humor and joy. With 25 years of supervising and clinical experience with children, adults and couples, I am able to quickly attune and help clients feel at ease. I listen closely to my client’s thoughts, fears and dreams while helping them to make meaningful connections that strengthen their sense of self. While deep inner work generally takes time, some positive change can be anticipated rapidly.

I have a special interest in preventive psychotherapy; preparing clients for life transitions such as marriage, parenthood, school entry, transitions to college and to work, retirement and aging.
My approach to therapy is both warm and collaborative. I listen intuitively, and respect the client's expertise on the client's own experience. In therapy sessions, we are partners in identifying and building on your strengths. Together, we clarify your goals and clear away obstacles so you can move forward. I hold a master's degree from Bank Street College of Education in addition to my master's in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am also a certified ADHD clinical services provider.

I take a warm, supportive and practical approach to psychotherapy, adapting treatment to the needs of each individual. I firmly believe that the present is informed but not wholly determined by our past, and that we all strive for wellness and ongoing transformation. As such, I work with clients to promote both greater self-awareness and healthy coping skills. This process facilitates symptom relief, while also creating lasting change. My approach incorporates treatment modalities such as psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), existential, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques.

Soul loss is what we go through when our early wounds and traumas restrict our energy and impede our ability to live freely and joyfully. I can help you retrieve your lost energy and rewire old patterns, so you can more fully embody who you were meant to be. Pain is often an invitation to learn more about our feelings so we can evolve and expand. I use a mind-body approach (somatic experiencing/ gestalt) with a relational lens (psychodynamic/ attachment/ Jungian) and energy healing. If you feel stuck after years of talk therapy, I can help. I see children, adolescents, adults, couples & families online only at the moment.

I believe that therapy works best when it helps us get in touch with things we're not aware of and don't want to be aware of. We are all motivated to avoid painful thoughts, feelings, and memories. But along with that lack of awareness comes confusion, isolation, and the inability to act to improve our lives. In our work, we will strive together to figure out what you are unable to think about and feel, and then work through what we discover in a safe and supportive environment. This work can be very difficult, but its difficulty is also a measure of how important and life-changing it can be.

I work with clients of all ages. Adult clients come to me for a variety of reasons including anxiety, depression, work stress, relationship issues, and parenting questions. Loss and grief are often the root of these issues. I believe we need to change the conversation around grief. I am a spiritual person who welcomes clients interested in incorporating spirituality into their sessions.

Welcome! If you are queer, trans, non-binary, questioning, neurodivergent, kinky, poly, or otherwise inclined to defy mainstream narratives of mental health and well-being, then I may be the right fit for you. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the New York metro area, I offer an oasis of compassion, creativity, and self-reflection. I have several years of experience working as a body-neutral and LGBTQ-affirming sex educator, as well as working with queer and trans youth of color. I am especially proud to assist others in dismantling internalized forms of oppression and critically reframing their experiences with radical self-love.

We all seek a psychotherapist when we feel lost, confused, out of sorts with ourselves and others and it takes courage to expose one's self at times like this. Just the act of making the call to a therapist creates more confidence because it's a step towards gaining a little mastery over one's confusion or paralysis. It signals one does believe there's the chance of resolving one's problems and moving forward.

I have a diverse background with training in child and adult therapy, nutritional counseling, life coaching, and logotherapy. I am best suited to work people experiencing anxiety and depression. Psychotherapy typically focuses on how our past experiences drive us as adults while coaching is more forward-looking, and focuses on setting goals and looking at obstacles that get in the way of reaching those goals. Logotherapy is geared toward helping people find meaning and purpose in life. Child therapy helps children become more expressive of their emotions and develop more awareness of their strengths and to apply them in life.

For over thirty years, as a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst, I have helped adults, adolescents and couples to solve problems of living. My experience has given me a deep respect for the process of psychodynamic psychotherapy and its ability to help people lead more satisfying lives. Often, people seek therapy when they are feeling stuck in work or relationships or when they are experiencing depression, anxiety, pain or other somatic and emotional stresses. Therapy helps them replace ineffective or destructive patterns, leading to a much fuller range of life choices as well as deeper, richer emotional connections to other people.

Many children and adults are immersed in struggling to cope with post covid reactions. The isolation of lockdown and COVID itself has caused lingering symptoms of depression, anxiety, fatigue and ambivalence about re-engaging with others and with activities that are life affirming. To compound matters we are witnessing the slaughter of innocent human beings at the mercy of a mass murderer. Don't delay in seeking help if you are struggling to make sense of your life. Bring your partner, family or your friend group for a session. You and those you bring might be surprised by the therapeutic benefit of even one meeting.

In life, we are dealt circumstances that we need to contend with as best we can. While we often try to be as adaptive as possible, we are sometimes faced with challenges that are too hard to navigate alone. If you are currently struggling with relationships, depression, anxiety, identity, or life transitions, therapy may be a space where you can find new avenues of understanding, relief, connection, and fulfillment.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
