When you're at a crossroads, what drives the choices you make? I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist helping my clients take charge of their life's direction. In college, I received life changing advice from a creative writing professor. She wrote "this character has no agency" on a paper where the protagonist was a not-so-subtle self-insert. And she was absolutely right; my choices were driven by side characters. This realization sparked something in me that I hope everyone gets to experience: serious main character energy. My skills and training, and that of my associates, are now at your disposal for exactly that purpose.

We specialize in Marriage and Family Therapy and treat couples and individuals. Marriage therapy focuses on the conflicts and disagreements between two people. All families experience some type of disagreement. Some families function in unhealthy patterns and therefore conflict exists. Families are affected when one member of the family is chronically ill, suffers from substance abuse, divorce and separation, single parenting, financial issues, etc, as well as a lack of communicating effectively. Family therapy may be the only setting where you will have the opportunity to hear how other family members are feeling.

My practice is a devoted exclusively to children ages 5-17. Attention Deficit Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Asperger's & Autistic Spectrum Disorder, BiPolar Disorder and School Underachievement are my specialties. Social skills, parenting issues and sibling rivalry are additional areas of focus. I also specialize in treating children who have had past treatment failures. Lastly, with parental permission I consult with the child's school to assure the child's interests are best served.

I am a Mental Health Counselor with 11 years of experience aiming to partner with you in your journey to healing. I use my expertise in creative ways to personalize strategies that can help address your concerns causing emotional distress. I work with children ages 9+, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Hi! My name is Dr. Ed Callaghan. I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and am fully licensed in the state of New Jersey. I am the co-founder of the Integrative Therapy Institute of NJ and it’s Director of Child Services. I specialize in working with preschool and school-age children as well as adolescents and adults. I am especially proficient at working with children with ADHD, behavioral problems, and school-related difficulties--especially problems related to poor school performance, distractibility, and motivation/drive. I am also VERY SUCCESSFUL at bridging conflictual relationships between teens and their parents.
