I have extensive experience working with people who suffer from anxiety, depression, grief/loss, parenting struggles, pregnancy/postpartum/womens health struggles, self esteem and self worth concerns, body issues, gender and sexuality struggles, anger and marriage/family conflict.
Open slots on Wednesday, accepting blue cross blue shield for new office. No evening appointments at this time. Growth is one of the hardest steps a person can make. Being a therapist since 2016, and in the field of social work since 2013 I understand the strength it takes to take those first steps to becoming your best self. Graduating with my masters in social work from Wayne State University I have experience working with all age groups.

I have worked with marriage therapy, PTSD, and grief and loss.
I have worked in mental health and substance abuse for the last 17 years. In mental health, I have worked as an ACT coordinator and case manager for people suffering with a chronic mental illness. I was the Director of Visions Clubhouse in Pontiac for 4 years. I opened Pontiac Children Services. We serviced teenage boys that were wards of the state and helped them re-integrate back to school, social groups, and employment. I also worked in the psychiatric hospital in Mt. Clemens for 10 years as a social worker and therapist.

My treatment modalities include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Family Therapy, Marital Counseling, Crisis-Intervention, Grief Counseling, Life Coaching and supervision for LLMSW seeking full licensure.
We are all masters of our own lives; we each hold the answers to questions and problems we may endure. Seeking assistance can be difficult and takes courage; I provide a safe environment, compassionate, holistic nature and welcome people of all ages. I pride my practice on integrating what are considered non-traditional methods of treatment to supplement our therapy together.

Marital therapy begins with extensive work to improve communication.
I am a well experienced professional who's career included teaching, educational administration, extensive consulting and clinical practice. I form practical and beneficial treatment strategies. We are a team working to identify unhealthy negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The therapist coaches to eliminate counterproductive activities and to construct positive, successful behaviors that produce solutions and overcome challenges. Counseling 45 minutes a week cannot produce change. Homework assignments promote everyday use of what is learned. Developing and systematically using effective responses creates a foundation to build esteem, confidence, and success. You will overcome challenges and resolve issues that threaten well being and mental health.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
