I am a Substance Abuse Professional that blends therapeutic approaches to help each individual recover. I work with each person to help them find solutions to life's problems and reach their fullest potential. I offer tele-health options.I have 30 years experience as an addictions co-occurring therapist and Christian counselor. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment values based therapy to treat addiction problems. Family mediation is available for families in crisis. I have worked in Kennebunk, Maine for 38 years helping individuals, couples and families identify, understand and transform their suffering. In our hurried lives, we sometimes find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from loved ones, or "stuck" and unsure about where we are headed. Some of us may even struggle with a past that continues to define our present. As a counselor, I strive to provide a safe, supportive environment promoting awareness, cultivating strengths, and encouraging lasting change. My style draws upon an experience range including grief/hospice care, family/couple systems, group and individual treatment for clients with severe psychiatric diagnoses, and addiction.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with more than 15 years of experience working with couples, families, adolescents, adults, and children. I graduated from Simmons College of Social Work with a master's degree, and enthusiastically work to help my clients make lasting, visible changes. Together, we can uncover new ways to make meaningful change, by identifying weaknesses and strengths and developing a plan.

My primary model for treatment is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, a classic model of treatment that focuses on reshaping core beliefs about self and others that often have deep and complex roots. I am a serious person by nature and take my work very seriously. Patients can expect challenging questions, thoughtfulness, and strong focus on getting to the bottom of unproductive thought patterns and habits (Curiosity), but with humor and caring (Compassion).

Do you suspect that you or a loved one is on the autism spectrum? I can help you in exploring this question and considering its personal, vocational, and family implications. I specialize in working with older adults who are diagnosed or seek diagnosis. I also work with teens and children/families. I can help communication between autistics and "neuro-typicals." I am active in an adult autistic peer support network and can help you connect with other autistics for support if you wish to do so.

My ideal client is a seeker, someone who is working on themselves to become more self-aware, or perhaps trying to understand the craziness of the world. They may be experiencing "spiritual emergencies," NDE's, having out of body experiences or psychic episodes. Most of their issues go beyond day to day problems. They may also have the desire to find the "root" cause of their health problems, and/or attempting to heal/bring their body into balance.

My goal as a therapist is to empower clients to live more mindfully. I believe that we each have the power to gain insight into our thoughts; increase awareness and connection with our feelings; more effectively manage stress; and make the changes in our lives that are necessary to function more fully in relationships, and work. My role as a therapist is to facilitate this process. I work with clients on issues such as addictions, depression, anxiety, learning difficulties, conflicts within families/couples,and anger management.

I am certified in thanatology and have a special interest in providing support to individuals and families after traumatic loss. I also have extensive experience working with those who are seeking help for depression and anxiety or who would like to improve their capacity to cope with stress, relationships, and life transitions.

As a dually licensed therapist I specialize in both mental health therapy as well as substance abuse and affected other counseling. Although I am able to provide either form of treatment alone, it is often appropriate to combine the two as a treatment for those experiencing difficulties due to the co-occurrence of symptoms, whether they have the substance abuse issue themselves or are affected by a loved one's substance abuse.
