My ideal client is someone who comes to therapy in a time of need. They might be experiencing anxiety for the first time due to life changes and transitions or may be concerned as to where the anxiety came from. The client might be processing loss or grief from a loved one or past friendships and or relationships. My ideal client will have needs such as needing to identify coping skills to get through life stressors, assistance with reaching goals. As a therapist I would be able to provide the client with a objective perspective to bounce their ideas and situations off of.

The primary goal of counseling is to provide the most effective therapeutic experience available to you. The purpose is to help facilitate behavior change by improving the client's ability to establish and maintain relationships, enhancing the client's effectiveness and ability to cope, promoting the decision-making process, and facilitating client potential and development. Clinicians cannot fix other people's problems; our job is to provide a safe and supportive environment that allows the individual an opportunity to build the necessary skills needed to make better choices in their life.

Things have a way of not working out the way they we thought they would. The stories of our lives begin in the families we are given with all of their foibles and experiences. Pages that become chapters of pain, trauma or loss can engulf the one that feels trapped in the narrative. After a plot twist of epic proportions, I left a 16-year career in the intelligence community and began a new chapter. I’ve had to confront the sources, rewrite the narrative, consult the author and find myself in the pages. The refinement process can be a horrific one but in the truth, freedom is found. Together, we can find healing.

In the quiet spaces between the chaos of our lives, I understand that there are moments when the weight of the world feels too heavy to bear. Life's journey is marked by unexpected twists and turns, and it's in these moments of challenge that I extend my hand to those seeking support. Anxiety may grip your chest, depression may cast shadows over your days, and the tumultuous waves of life transitions may leave you feeling lost and even hopeless. All you really want is peace within and outside of you, but you are having a hard time with fulfilling that desire.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
