I very commonly work with clients who are dealing with anxiety, depression and other major life stressors related to change and transition. I also work with couples on their relationship or marriage. I particularly have a heart for, and have specialized in working with, people who are facing serious medical issues, including cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, chronic and terminal illnesses, and the grief it can bring that is related to death and dying. I like to work with individuals who are experiencing an existential crisis of meaning. My style as a professional counselor is genuine, respectful, comforting and supportive.

There are times when we struggle with an issue and need someone to encourage and help us. Sometimes we need to tell just one other person something we have done or been through. And once in a while our wheels come off, and we need serious support and help. It is very important to me that you feel safe when you come into my office, and that you are heard when it comes to the issues you are facing. I want you to feel you won't be judged and hopeful that true healing can occur.

People who reach out when the going is tough have my deepest respect. I love my work and feel privileged to be present with people during their significant life transitions. I work with people to discover what they are doing right and expand on those things, rather than focusing on problems or what an individual may have done "wrong". I work to help a person "live" again rather than continue the pattern of their chronic depression or anxiety. A client who elects to go through the process of therapy is a person of courage who is committed to change.

Using a mix of attachment theory, strategic therapy, and experiential approaches, you can be sure I will keep you engaged and motivated to show up to sessions where you will participate in more than just talk therapy. I obtained my master's degree in marriage and family therapy from Wheaton College and describe myself as a "systems thinker." I welcome the opportunity to meet with families, couples, or adult individuals. I also have a special interest in working with couples navigating ADHD, families with older children, and individuals struggling with codependency.

I Have worked in the areas of substance abuse and mental health for the past 29 years. I work with clients between the ages of 16 and 60. I have a strong interests in addictions, impulse control and personality disorders. I have sucessfully guided both individuals and couples through very difficult times in their lives and have seen many of them reach their highest potential in life. I put Jesus Christ at the center of my life and find a strong spiritual life helps in the healing process. I look forward to helping you reach your highest potential.

I have over 30 years of clinical experience. Having been around for this long I have significant experience treating a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, OCD, Panic Disorders, ADD, addictions, relational difficulties, family turmoil, life transitions, parenting skills, physical health problems, and sexual dysfunction. Cesar is trained in numerous therapeutic orientations that are grounded in the latest research in the field of mental health which enables him to personalize his treatment approach to the specific needs and goals of the individual. His training is focused on trauma and he specializes in treating clients with combat and non-combat-related issues such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, complex grief, attachment and reactive disorders, among others. He served as a Clinical Combat Chaplain in the US Army and as a forensic mental health clinician at a county jail for several years prior to private practice.
