I began my journey at The Family Institute at Northwestern University, where I earned my Master of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy.
Your voice is stronger and louder than you believe, and I believe that every being has an untold story waiting to be heard, understood, and held with honor. We are often given the systemic message that our voices do not matter, that our stories will be outlived, or that our mental health (a.k.a. our feels) are not as important as our physical health. That is not your truth, or mine. Therapy can help you find your voice (or whatever medium works for you) so that you may continue to grow stronger, louder, and be more unapologetically YOU.

I work with couples who are experiencing communication, intimacy, and conflict issues, navigating the transition to marriage and parenthood, and facing various life transitions.
I am a relational, systemic therapist who works with individual adults and couples. I believe most clients seek therapy because their approach to improving their lives is not working. They feel stuck and without direction. I help individuals and couples develop new strategies to improve their relationships, cope with significant pain and loss, and live more fulfilled and satisfying lives. My approach is empathetic, honest, interactive, and direct. I value client insight and recognize the importance of a trusting and open therapeutic relationship to bring about healing.

As a therapist, I believe in the power of self-awareness in helping people overcome adversity. Trained in Systems Therapy at the Family Institute at Northwestern University, my orientation is to use relationships to strengthen our understanding of one another, and of ourselves. I value the humanistic experience most of all, and strive to learn as much as possible about one's past motivations and ways of coping. I also believe that the therapeutic relationship is the key ingredient in effecting change. I use compassion and acceptance as tools to help create space for that change.

25 years of experience in private practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist has given me the ability to create a warm and safe environment for change. Would you like to make changes in your marriage, family, children or work environment? Sometimes it is helpful to ask what the problem is, rather than why it is a problem. If you know what the problem is, it can be more helpful to solve. We use that philosophy in Brief Therapy, which can be effective for busy, active families and marriages in crises.

I pay careful attention to the significance and challenge of major developmental transitions: relationship commitment, career choices, decisions regarding children, marriage, divorce and the challenges of dealing with elderly parents.
I am an active, cognitive behavioral therapist who forms strong therapeutic partnerships, laced with humor, gentleness, thoughtful confrontation and the belief that individuals have the right, responsibility and capacity to decide how they want to live. I am both supportive and challenging. I help individuals examine their belief systems, identify strengths, work through barriers to growth and develop specific strategies for modifying their behavior. While I believe that the client is ultimately responsible for life choices, I am actively involved as a consultant, supporter, strategist and trusted advisor.

Our clinicians love helping women learn how to manage their anxiety, cope during life changes (adulthood, marriage, parenthood, divorce) and learn how to effectively work through relationship challenges.
Do you constantly feel on edge, overwhelmed or anticipate future events with worry and dread? Do racing, ruminating thoughts impact your ability to concentrate on tasks, manage stress or engage socially? Living with anxiety can be a distressing, frustrating and sometimes frightening experience. You may be preoccupied by "what if" questions about the future that you can't control, causing your thoughts to spiral and fuel more distressing emotions and physical symptoms. The ongoing, looping cycle of anxiety can impact all aspects of your life, including work performance and your relationships.

I offer engaged, purposeful therapy, focusing on relationships, professional and academic challenges, and life transitions. My specialty lies in supporting adults as they navigate increasing responsibilities in their careers while also managing personal life phases such as dating, marriage, parenting, and losses. Many of my clients are dealing with stress, anxiety, sadness, or depression. I integrate current research and traditional approaches: many clients find value in acquiring skills for emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness, while others explore larger issues related to their personal values and life's purpose.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
