Hello, I'm Dr. Yaro Garcia, please call me Yaro. I am a licensed mental health counselor with extensive training in clinical psychology, cognition, and trauma. I have 14 years of clinical practice. In addition to my work with clients, I also share my expertise as a professor and recognized speaker on topics related to mental health and wellness including complex trauma and treatment techniques.

I believe strongly in the mind-body connection and utilize mindfulness-based techniques (such as meditation, visualization and body awareness) united with elements of more traditional modalities. When these changes are noticed it is helpful to have a professional assess the biological psychological and social functioning of the individual. These assessments are completed with the purpose of identifying present strengths and needs, and together draw a road map to achieve a higher level of functioning.

Dr. Walters earned a Ph.D. in Psychology from The University of Northern Colorado and a Masters degree from the University of Alabama. During her education Dr. Walters completed a variety of training experiences including working in a drug rehabilitation center, public schools, the University Mental Health Clinic where she provided counseling to families, couples, individuals, and children. Dr. Walters also worked in the Neuropyschology Clinic providing neuropsychological assessment. She completed a dissertation titled Traumatic Brain Injury Self Report: Identifying the Relationship between Personality and Risk Taking Behavior.
