Reaching out to a professional takes courage. When struggles and unexpected challenges arise, it can lead to symptoms of anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, OCD, and many other psychological and emotional symptoms. Sometimes stress leads to compulsive behaviors, including; over indulging in alcohol and substance misuse. We encourage self-exploration into the patterns that keep individuals stuck, and prevent them from moving forward. We help client's capitalize on their strengths to focus on reaching their highest potential.

If you are seeking therapy for the very first time you may be wary, not know what to look for in a therapist or how therapy works and what to expect from it. I can reassure and educate you about the process and our relationship. If you previously have been in therapy and are experiencing a re-occurring issue, a new development in your life or may be in crisis, you may also worry about connecting with your new therapist and having to start anew. I can offer a supportive, encouraging and exploratory process to help either of you feel comfortable enough to work on yourself and achieve your goals.

I enjoy working together discussing your concerns as you move toward fulfilling relationships, an overall better existence, and peace with yourself. We all want to feel happy and hopeful. It is hard to seek help when we are feeling anxious, confused, or lost. Figuring out who we are and what we want can be very challenging. Psychotherapy can help when, because of specific circumstances, history of trauma, or during life transitions, we experience feelings of worthlessness, panic, loneliness, or emptiness.

I specialize in helping people improve their mental health by improving their most important relationships. I believe that these two things are fundamentally connected, and that challenges like anxiety and depression often have their root in how we relate (or don’t relate) with other people in love, friendship, family, and professional life. So if you find yourself stuck in one of these areas and find yourself needing new tools, I might be able to help.

Maintaining an integrative approach, I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy CBT, EMDR and Self Regulation techniques modalities in my therapeutic practice. My specialties are Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Sexual Trauma, Depression and Anxiety. Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
