Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy and Master Certified Life Coaching available for Individual, Couple, Child, and Family Counseling. I offer real solutions for Communication, Anger, Depression, ADHD, Anxiety, PTSD. When we stress our reactivity leads to regressive and unhealthy coping behaviors. Unfortunately, the mental health field often uses diagnoses to label behavior when really what is needed is counseling around attachment, communication and various coping skills. You are not your diagnosis, and our therapeutic process includes removing or reducing stress and establishing a healthy, constructive coping strategy.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist I focus on working with adult individuals and couples who may be experiencing anxiety and depression, grief and loss, health/wellness issues, marital/relational/family challenges, occupational stress management, recovery support, and life coaching.
I believe in the possibility to grow and change our self-limiting beliefs and to let go of negative thought patterns. I believe we can challenge our anxiety and depression, and learn to act, not react, with courage. I believe we can change past unhealthy and toxic patterns in ourselves and relationships with others that foster understanding and positive communication. We can all begin to enjoy a new path to greater health, wellness and balance in our lives.

Does every conversation with your spouse turn into an argument? Are you at a loss of what to do next to "fix" the marriage? Do you feel like you used to be on the same page but now it feels like you're on separate planets? Maybe you can't quite put your finger on what the actual problem is, but you're feeling frustrated, angry, disconnected, and alone. Perhaps you're struggling to overcome that "thing" from your past that you've never really talked about...

If you feel like you are in survivor's mode, overwhelmed, and lost but not wanting to give up on your marriage, I can help you.
It feels like we are roommates. We don't have a lot to say to one another but when we do, our conversations turn into arguments. I look across the room and I don't even recognize the spouse that used to make my heart skip a beat years ago. My desperate attempts for connection come out as either criticism or anger. But the more I do that, the more he/she withdraws from me. I feel helpless and alone but craving the love of my person. "How did we grow apart?" is a thought that often enters my mind. Many life stressors can pull partners away from each other such as time, kids, money, betrayal, and a difference in core life values.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
