I specialize in treating couples within a Gottman Method framework, and assisting individuals who are facing transitions in marriage, divorce, or phase of life issues.
I believe you can have a life of purpose, passion, and growth. I view my role as your teammate; helping you to achieve your goals and jointly discovering a healthy path forward. Your life is your own and I am committed to helping you realize a vision for your future that is uniquely yours.

Are you looking for insight into difficult thoughts or feelings that keep you from enjoying relationships, family, and career? When traumatic events or unexpressed feelings are left unattended we can become identified with these states and symptoms like depression, social anxiety, substance abuse and self sabotage can arise. It can be difficult to make changes and overcome obstacles without support, new tools, and new insight.

Personal growth, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship problems, issues surrounding sexual orientation or gender identification, life transitions or everyday life impediments are my primary focus for treatment. I draw upon your own personal strengths, talents, and desires to identify the options you have to move past the challenges you've identified and create alternative outcomes. Whatever the need, growth is a process that is worked on collaboratively in treatment. When the challenge exists between you and a loved one, treatment highlights the development of clear, honest, and respectful communication so that all parties may gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the person next to them.

In my experience, suffering thrives in isolation. That’s why it can be so helpful to talk about your experience with someone. As a trained professional, I'll work with you to process your anxiety, grief, shame, and depression. I want to help you trust your feelings and body, grow your self-acceptance, and learn how to be both creative and flexible in the face of the inevitable hardships of life.

As a post modern thinker, I believe that each person has the skills and strengths to create an affirmative narrative, that is not based on negative self-talk or unproductive messages. I like holding conversations that will spark curiosity and explore opportunities to author your new stories.

Hello, I’m an LMFT and I thoroughly enjoy my work as a therapist. My name is Kylie Mackenzie, but you can call me Ky. I change my approach with everyone I see, generally speaking, because everyone heals in their own unique way. My most common theoretical approach is client-centered (we are equals) and psychoanalytic (I’m a blank slate) so the focus is purely on you with a split of problem solving and breaking down the emotional parts of the issue. I am very familiar with working with adults and teens. I have experience working with substance abuse and dual diagnoses.

Being a person in this world can be exciting, painful, scary, and awe-inspiring (sometimes all at once!) and I’m here to hold space for the paradoxes and messiness of life. My intention is to help you reclaim and accept the parts of yourself that you’ve learned to disown — and we all have those parts. I believe that with the right support, everyone has the ability to move toward more ease and connection.

My client-centered, trauma-informed, and integrative approach lends itself to meeting my clients where they are at and walking alongside you as you uncover the strengths and tools within to face life’s challenges.

I work with individuals and couples who feel disoriented, trapped, and need help walking forward. Pain comes in many different forms such as trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, fear, low self-esteem, discrimination, betrayal, anger, or just feeling lost. This pain can be like quicksand, constantly trapping you no matter what you do or try. My specialty is working with people whose pain is made more complex by intersecting identities (Religion/Spirituality, Culture/Race/Ethnicity, LGBTQ+, immigration). In addition, I have specializations in working with, multiracial people, emerging adults, men, and helping professionals.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
