I also offer pre-marital and marital counseling from a Christian perspective to help build, sustain, and maintain a healthy marriage in a non-biased environment.
I help individuals with relational-based trauma, issues surrounding perfectionism, self-acceptance, and challenges pertaining to life transitions (divorce/separation, moving, job changes, etc.) work through mental and emotional barriers to heal, and be at peace with themselves. My clients are often high-achieving or ambitious, but have a hard time celebrating or accepting themselves. They are often leaders or pillars in various spheres, but wrestle with self-sabotage and imposter syndrome. They may also experience anxiety and a sense of hopelessness surrounding their triggers, but ready to do the work to move towards wholeness.

I provide a grounding environment for clients who have been in survival mode and are looking to find their authentic self. Many of my clients have learned to cope with challenging relationships, trauma, or stressors by trying to control the uncontrollable or by shutting themselves off from the world around them. I work with adults and older adolescents who are dealing with issues related to depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress, relationships, achievement and success, chronic illness, transitions, early attachment problems, self-esteem, addictions, betrayal, and general problems in living. I focus on self-acceptance and growth rather than on pathology and "change." I believe we are all in this together; I take the journey with my clients rather than thinking I know what is best for them. I think questions are often more important than answers. My motto is: Less judgment, more curiosity.

My experience includes working with individuals, couples, families, children and adolescents experiencing a wide range of difficulties, in both individual and group sessions, in school, church, community and private practice settings. I understand how challenging it is to seek help and the courage it takes to change. We carry with us the unconscious lessons and ways of being that we learned in our earliest relationships. By uncovering these ineffective life strategies and learning new ways of relating, I am committed to helping you develop the tools you need to achieve lasting transformation in your life.

Nearly everyone experiences moments of great difficulty and uncertainty. At times like that, hope is harder to gather, and we can find ourselves feeling stuck, unproductive, and maybe incapable. There's a best version of you that you want the world to witness, but it seems impossible to access that person buried somewhere beneath all the stress and confusion of life. If you find yourself feeling stuck or not quite living as your best self , I hope you will call me.

You took the right step to look for an objective perspective. Now, to get unstuck from those anxieties, relationship difficulties or traumatic feelings, it may only take working together to get the perspective you need. It is already in you to find that better place to be and it shows up in the steps you have taken to get here. I would like to work with you to bring out your strengths and walk beside you as you grow.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
