I have been trained in marriage and family therapy using an effective treatment model and specializing in marital conflicts, cultural issues, PTSD, ADD, addictions, anxiety, anger, and depression issues.
I am a Christian therapist trained in many techniques, interventions, and approaches (i.e., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, Humanistic); however, my focus is on working with my clients to meet their need for counseling. I believe counseling is the most effective way to gain insight into how our past is directing our present and future choices. We live in a world embraced intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships that have shaped and influenced our perception of ourselves and insightful counseling helps us ascertain what is important to us. I will work with clients, who prefer to incorporate their Christian beliefs into their counseling session.

My specialization is helping couples through pre-marital guidance, infidelity, and communication/conflict resolution challenges.
Have you felt unheard or alone in your relationship? Perhaps you’ve tried to express your feelings and emotions and yet you still feel that no one cares. I applaud you for taking the first step toward a healthier journey for yourself and relationship. After meeting my husband and completing pre-martial counseling of my own, I came to realize my passion for helping couples strengthen their emotional and physical bonds came as a natural strength. With experience working with the family unit, I strive to assist families in pursuing new solutions to their problems that ultimately strengthen the family dynamic.

Is your love relationship falling apart and you cannot stop it? Sex was hot but now not so much. You don't talk as easily as you could when you fell in love about six months ago. You don't feel as appreciated, as listened to, as heard. It's a scientific fact that when you fall in love certain mating hormones take over to control how you think and feel. As your love feelings fade it is time to turn the love you have into a stronger relationship that will last. Is marriage what you want? I can help guide you through all the stages and subtle changes to grow your love stronger. Call for a complimentary consultation.

I provide talk therapy for adults on issues related to anxiety, depression, communication, codependency, pre-marital preparedness, and building healthy relationships.
Sometimes, in spite of our preparations, life surprises us with difficult situations. I provide therapy and neurofeedback for individuals and couples who have found themselves struggling with unexpected difficulties such as job loss, anxiety, and loving relationships that have grown painful. I seek to help clients to re-build the areas that have become broken and reclaim life out of the pain. Clients can expect an individualized approach that will pull from cognitive behavioral work, Gottman's relational theories, the Knowdell Career Transition Model, and more. In 2017, I began offering Neurofeedback across the lifespan.

“You’re a person, not a diagnosis.” That phrase appears on my website and my business cards because it goes to the heart of my philosophy about therapy. While diagnoses may be helpful for medical treatments, you’re a person with real hopes, dreams, fears, and problems. Listening with respect is the beginning of our relationship, and I engage in “active listening” – asking questions for clarification, and making connections to a person’s past. Together, we’ll identify the issues facing you. Then, we’ll map out a plan to deal with those issues. In this way, I often serve as a life coach in addition to being a therapist.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
