Imagine you are a veteran coming off your third tour. You expect to be happy to go back home welcome; however, what you end up with is PTSD from the traumatic events you have experienced overseas. You try to function in society however you wake up from cold sweats due to the nightmares of your memories. It effects your livelihood. You don't want to get out of bed. You are uncomfortable around family and friends, you struggle to find work, and your marriage is suffering. You feel all alone and wish someone could take this pain away from you. You simply want to be respected and be able to function in society like everyone else

I am a counselor who specializes in helping clients achieve their goals. I offer a judgment-free, unconventional approach to counseling as I believe therapy should be tailored to the person asking for help. I firmly believe everyone does things in their own unique way and time so honing in on self-identified strengths assists me with helping clients improve upon what they may consider their "challenges". I also assist my clients with getting in tune with those hidden strengths they may be unaware of. The hardest part of therapy is getting started. Book a session and take a chance. It is the only way to be the change you wish to see.

New Year- Same You? We can help wit that! So many clients start out knowing exactly WHAT changes they want to make...but they need help in figuring out HOW to get there. They also need a judgement free, safe space to help them stay there. If you have trouble establishing boundaries without guilt or are seeking to raise your self-esteem, we can help you. Once you are clear about who you are, rather than who you think you should be, all of your relationships and current stressors will be SO much easier to navigate.

I am an LPC and obtained my MA from Liberty University. As a former educator and children's minister, I gained extensive experience counseling children, adolescents, individuals and families. I have found Play Therapy techniques, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and EMDR to be especially helpful to my clients. Besides my calling to help others and spending time with my family, it is my relationship with God that gives me the greatest joy. I feel blessed and privileged to assist others on their journey to mental and emotional healing.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
