Some “problems” include depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, marital or relationship issues, identity exploration (including LGBTQIA+), spiritual considerations, and career questions.
I founded Blue House Therapy (website under construction but it is up) because I believe we are all worthy of living meaningful and fulfilling lives. I feel so honored to be able to work together with couples and individuals in exploring and writing their next chapter of life. You may be seeking counseling because you are aware there is something standing in your way, we could call this “the problem.” There is a saying that resonates with me, "you are not the problem, the problem is the problem."

The best psychotherapy helps transform life’s toughest challenges into deep and meaningful growth. So often our greatest healing actually begins in the pain of everyday living whether it shows up in loneliness, anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, family drama, anger, fear, shame or desperation. Gaining new perspectives on self, critically examining what isn’t working, and tapping into our natural strengths can be the most powerful way to get unstuck, develop a deeper sense of self, and cultivate more happiness.

Do you want to transform your life? Do you long to live in a way that’s more vivid, poignant and meaningful? Are you hungry for an authentic connection with others? It’s the key operating systems that run us when we are making dinner, interacting with our family and tying our shoes. Perhaps you are ready for some new ones? Sometimes it takes life falling apart for us to become ready to seek a new path. You need courage to let go of what no longer works and that’s where I can help. I use a lens of core vulnerability to help people understand the role of defense mechanisms and a mindfulness-based approach.

I think of my work with clients as helping to meet the ongoing challenges of life that we all experience. Problems with depression, anxiety, changing abilities, trauma, loss, self identity, or difficult relationships arise for all of us from time to time. Our challenge is to understand our experiences, develop the skills to manage them, and to visualize and move forward to live the most fulfilling life we can.

Welcome. Many individuals I work with come to me with a history of depression, anxiety, trauma, difficulty in relationships, and low self-esteem. My approach focuses on understanding symptoms that arise from these experiences, along with exploring ways of managing, soothing, and coping. Importantly, I prioritize building a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust and empathy. This is the foundation that will allow us to delve into underlying causes, patterns, and conflicts that lead to personal growth and lasting change. Together, we navigate your unique journey towards healing and self-discovery.

When things aren't going well, we all need different things. Sometimes we need to vent, sometimes we need someone to tell us it'll all be okay, and, sometimes we just need to someone to help us figure out what to do next. When done right, therapy can be all of those things for us. My primary goal is to ensure everyone I work with feels like there is someone here to help them through life's many trials and tribulations by focusing on creating a warm and trusting therapeutic relationship. It's through this relationship that I am able to make interpretations and suggestions that can lead to the change that you are seeking.

Men and women who appear to benefit the most from working with me are those who arrive via their own motivation. They are clear that something is not working for them and they are open to investigating what might move them forward. Having curiosity as well as a willingness to expand their "comfort zone" contributes to a successful outcome. It is my intention to assist a client in expanding their understanding of their situation, others and themselves. Being "mindful" is more than a slogan; learning to be with things as they are or make changes adds greatly to well-being.

Does it feel like nothing truly works to ease your anxiety? Somehow, you're getting through each day. On the surface, you're person who has it all together, but in reality you're questioning everything about yourself. You're struggling with self-doubt, people-pleasing and you put everyone else before yourself. You’re ready to drop the struggle of needing to do everything "right." You’re ready to stop needing to always be the one to handle the messes and instead be the one who gets the support. Most of all, you’re ready to finally feel okay with saying you need help.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
