Hello - My name is Dr. Mark Worthen, a North Carolina licensed healthcare provider psychologist, with 30 years of postdoctoral experience. I start by giving you time to talk while listening carefully and reflecting back what I hear until you tell me that I've got it—that I understand your suffering, your values, and what you want to change. I cannot write letters or complete forms for employment or housing matters, such as Return to Work, FMLA, Fitness for Duty (FFD), or Emotional Support Animals.
I seek to balance specificity with what works for you. Tell me what you want to change, in your own words, and we will start there. We might also need to document SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant/realistic, and time-bound), and that approach has benefits, but I will not obsess over it. This is your therapy, and they are your goals.
The more information you can give me in advance, the more time we will have for you to tell me about yourself, the problems you face, and what you want to change. At the same time, a good assessment generally leads to better outcomes.
