There is no such thing as "bad art" or "bad artists" in art therapy. You are also not too old or too (fill in the blank) to give it a try. Art therapy is highly adaptable and accesses both sides of your brain. The act of creating and altering images, in your own unique way can help to externalize, reorganize and regulate your emotional narrative in a way that words alone may not. I primarily specialize in working with teens and older adults who have emotional dysregulation, disability (cognitive and/or physical), are neurodiverse (ADHD/ASD/HSP), LGBTQIA2S+, PTSD, CPTSD. BUT you do not need a diagnosis to utilize art therapy.
I have a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy and facilitate client(s) in the use of the visual arts, the creative process, and/or verbal expression to work towards individual and/or group goals. In session, I meet you where you are physically, emotionally, culturally, and creatively to provide your own unique care to meet goals.
Art can access felt memories and experiences and give a creative (and sometimes fun!) way process and explore the feelings you bring to session. I do not analyze your work or diagnose. I witness you as you are and work with you to find your own meaning.
