Marissa is Restorative Counseling’s resident couples and family therapist and is passionate about helping her clients’ relationships become healthy and strong. She works with couples experiencing high levels of conflict, as well as couples who find it hard to speak openly with their partner and have fallen into a pattern of avoidance. Marissa also counsels families, including families with adult children, who seek to create a healthier dynamic.

Marissa creates a safe and nurturing environment for all of her clients and the counselors she supervises, increasing self-awareness and personal development during each session. Clients appreciate her warm and empathetic nature paired with her direct and clear approach.

Marissa pulls from a variety of evidence-based therapies to develop comprehensive and personalized counseling plans for each of her clients based on their presenting concerns and goals. I counsel with couples through a model called Emotionally Focused Therapy, or EFT. I help couples exit negative cycles of conflict or avoidance, and create new soothing cycles of connection and safety. I offer EFT intensives for couples that need a more focused approach to healing what hurts in their relationship. Intensives are 3-4 days long and we work together for about 4-5 hours a day.

This adult DBT Group meets weekly in our Buckhead office. Men and women alike gain skills across all 4 modules of Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Distress Tolerance Skills, Emotion Regulation Skills, Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills, and Mindfulness Skills. Group members learn how to live in the present moment, find healthy ways to handle worry and stress, appropriately regulate emotions, and improve interpersonal relationships . DBT skills are powerful tools because they help us relate and respond to emotions and situations more effectively. You will learn concrete skills that you can apply outside of the group to reach your emotional, social, and physical goals.
