My name is Mariana Torres and my pronouns are She/Her/Ella. I received an undergraduate degree in psychology and Spanish from Coe College. Once I completed my bachelor’s, I worked for a year at Thresholds on the South Side of Chicago as a Community Support Specialist. As I continued to work through a holistic focus with my clients, I realized the importance of working with families of my clients which pushed me to continue my education with a graduate degree in Couple and Family Therapy. I am completing my hour requirements through the CFTD program at Adler University. As a Latinx individual, I understand the importance of honoring
and embracing our experiences. I can also understand the areas of mental health stigma that can hold in our community which at times can feel discouraging. It is not easy to change how others perceive mental health, but we hold the power to heal ourselves; therefore, I aim to guide you in empowering yourself to improve the quality of your life. I am a
Mexican American born and raised on the south side of Chicago. My first language was Spanish then it transitioned to English and eventually Spanglish. As a Childhood Sexual Abuse survivor and someone living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, I find it important to be mindful of the continuing need for advocacy. I look forward to working with you!
