About
I work with adults and adolescents with a variety of struggles and difficulties including relationship problems, depression, anxiety, trauma, and loss. I think about treating whole people rather than diagnoses or problems. And, because each person is unique, I believe that close and careful listening is vital as I try to understand each person who comes to see me. I create secure and collaborative relationships in which my patients and I can be curious together and work on understanding and shifting patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating that may cause symptoms and interfere with living fully and freely.
Often, we don’t fully understand what our emotional difficulties are about. I believe psychological distress can have both conscious and unconscious causes. Psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis help to facilitate self-awareness and growth. With these approaches, I help my patients with both specific stressors and longstanding repetitive patterns.
I am currently an advanced candidate with the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the Contemporary Freudian Society (since fall 2017). Also, my graduate training included coursework in theology and philosophy and I recognize the importance of religious, spiritual, and existential issues in psychological well-being.
