Deciding to start therapy can be daunting. It's important to remember, though, that seeking help is a strength, one that we can build on. In my work with people, I help them identify their strengths and use them to work toward a better future. I specialize in working with issues such as depression, anxiety, and relationships, and within those contexts, I have particular expertise in weight management, healthy lifestyles, and life transitions.
My approach to therapy emphasizes, first and foremost, the therapeutic relationship. I strive at all times to provide a therapeutic environment in which you feel safe and valued. This alliance is not completely formed immediately; it grows over time. But it is essential to all that we do together.
My communication style begins with active listening. I usually ask questions that are quite open-ended; your choices about what to share are as helpful as the specific information that you put forth. If something happened yesterday that reminds you of a problem you had in third grade, I want to hear it. It is all interesting to me, and I value it.
