Since attending therapy is an implicit admission of imperfections for most people, my approach to counseling is person-centered and collaborative. Once the therapeutic alliance has been established, this approach allows clients to express their emotional reactions, develop more productive ways of dealing with feelings, and increase their levels of understanding and awareness. My counseling philosophy is to provide support, education, feedback and treatment that inspires clients to successfully take appropriate actions that will assist with solving their problems. Therapist qualities that I utilize include, but are not limited to, mutual respect, authenticity, genuineness, integrity, and the ability to empathize.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients change ineffective and illogical thought processes. Irrational thinking is restructured by reinforcing positive experiences. This approach will help clients discover what prevents them from having abundant lives. I provide personality, psychological, career, vocational, (MMPI, MCMI,CPI, MBTI, SDS) and substance abuse (SASSI) assessments.
I collaborate with clients to develop plans which clarify acceptable evidence for change. It is not that anyone desires to feel bad; it's that people don't always see ways to feel better. My counseling focus includes family conflict, anxiety, depression, relationships, divorce, bereavement, unemployment, gambling, sexual abuse, crime, and individuals from diverse culturals.
