I balance cognitive, somatic, and expressive approaches to offer insight and calm the nervous system – as working with both body and mind has proven to create sustainable change.
Through life’s messiness, it can be easy to lose track of who we are and where we want to go. Therapy can help remind us that our past traumas and current stressors shape us, but need not define us. As a therapist, it’s with compassion, understanding, and humor that I offer a space for self-discovery and self-actualization. Whatever brought you here, I strive to connect not just as therapist-and-client, but as people. My areas of focus include trauma, grief, LGBTQ+, anxiety, depression, and navigating life transitions.

I use traditional CBT based talk therapy along with therapies such as Mindfulness, EMDR and Parts work, always ensuring an empathetic and nonjudgmental space to allow healing.
No one sees the real you. You put on a mask, to the outside world things seem ok with you. But when you slow down from a busy day or find yourself alone without any distractions, your mind starts racing and your mood shifts. Maybe you feel like you lost part of yourself at some point, or maybe you never really knew yourself to begin with. Distractions like alcohol/other substances, unhealthy relationships, overworking, or other short-term fixes can momentarily fill the void, but it does not last. If this hits close to home, I can help you find lasting solutions, not quick fixes.

I have training in DBT, and TF-CBT.
When I entered the counseling profession over twenty-five years ago, my desire was to help people adjust to some of life's challenges and setbacks, while finding meaning and purpose. The therapeutic relationship is a safe venue in which one’s goals, whether life coaching, healing and recovery, improving relationships, or enhancing life satisfaction can be realized. My excitement for assisting people to develop meaningful goals for fulfillment in their life situation remains a passion. I work with children, adolescents, adults of all ages, and families to improve the quality of their lives.

I draw from a strengths-based and cognitive behavioral theoretical approach to counseling that allows you to work with me toward your goals.
Are you feeling anxious? Are you having trouble setting and reaching your goals? Are you feeling uneasy about your next steps? If your answer is yes, I believe that although this can be a difficult time, it is also an opportunity for growth. Feeling unsatisfied isn’t a bad thing. It can be the first step to making change and a time for rediscovery.

As a licensed therapist and clinical supervisor with training in EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma Informed Care, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I have a toolbox of skills that can help you build the life that you want to live for yourself.
The environment I strive to create in counseling is one of unconditional acceptance and safety. My approach to counseling comes from the Existential school of thought. Together and without judgment we can explore difficult topics like the feeling of meaninglessness of existence, the impermanence of all, and the anxiety that comes from our freedom to be the authors of our lives.

I employ techniques of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), as well as others to customize my practice to your symptoms.
I believe that therapy needs to be personalized to the individual and the goals that you have for yourself. Therapy is also a partnership between the therapist and the client. I often compare my view of therapy to a GPS; with you in the driver's seat, you select the destination you'd like to reach, and I'll help figure out a way to get us there. Empathy and therapeutic rapport are a foundation in my approach to practice; I have a genuine interest and investment in the lives of those that I work with, having compassion in all our interactions, while at the same time, also challenging you to work towards growth.

It takes courage to ask for help. If you're reading this then you’ve already taken the first step toward healing, and I applaud you for that. I am a licensed independent social worker and a licensed independent chemical dependency counselor with over 15 years of experience with individuals and groups from many different backgrounds and settings. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, addiction, and personality disorders. I'm interested in your mental health and overall recovery. There are a lot of therapies out there that claim to be ‘the’ way, but I find that if something is too good to be true, it probably is.

Utilizing CBT, Exposure (ERP), and Existential therapies, clients can explore their awareness of themselves in the present, their emotional experiences, their discomfort, how they choose to be themselves, and how to take responsibility for their lives in ways that help them feel empowered and free.
The weight of being alive, alone, hopeless, or stuck can feel unbearable or suffocating. Often we may feel that we know where we'd like to be in life, but don't know how to get there, or maybe we don't see a future at all. How does one overcome this sense of dread, or make sense from meaninglessness? It is my hope through authentic connections with others, we can discover what it means for each of us to live fully, thoroughly, and well. Conversations begin in an environment in which clients can feel safe, heard, and free to be themselves.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
