Thanks for checking out my page and kudos to you for taking care of yourself! What matters most to me is that my clients know they are welcomed and accepted for who they are. As a therapist, I support clients as they make their way through challenging times, whether that be a breakup, a rejection, loneliness, family struggles, depression, or life transitions that feel overwhelming. In my work, I strive to help clients find belonging and connection while also becoming more accepting of unpleasant or challenging experiences outside of their control.

I start with a thorough assessment of your current concerns. I take a broad-minded, non-judgmental approach to understanding what you are looking for help with. I try to be helpful by offering feedback and new perspectives and insights. I understand that you have probably already attempted several ways to address your concerns and by now you are most likely frustrated and worried. I will take a proactive and positive approach to your participation by helping you identify your personal strengths and assets that you can then use to develop a new and better response to your concerns.

I am a seasoned pain and medical psychologist with an extensive career in chronic pain , health management and psychopharmacology. I work closely with other referring medical providers and encourage the integration of self-management skills to bolster the effectiveness of the medical intervention. For the sake of better outcomes and achieving patient goals, it is best when the medical treatment and psychological treatment are introduced and monitored jointly. When psychological treatment is considered less important or secondary, coping and adjusting are delayed if not completely compromised.

Not accepting new clients
Every person deserves to be valued for who they are and where they are in life. Life challenges can lead us to feel disconnected from ourselves. There can be great value in reclaiming our entire selves, with all we have been through and currently face, while stepping into the unknown. Being truly witnessed can help us reconcile our realities, regain hope, and remember our gifts. I wish to honor your life by offering a warm, accepting haven for you to exist, unpack, discover, heal, and co-create your life in light of who you are and the unique opportunities and challenges you experience. You deserve to feel at home with yourself.

Not accepting new clients
My professional background was built on working with teenagers and young adults. In today's world, people migrate more than ever before and settle down later in life than previous generations have done. These new trends have forced us to redefine how we relate to one another and also to increase the number of social connections. Whether we are discussing anxiety, depression, procrastination, indecision, relationships, or existential dilemmas; I truly commit to helping people navigate through these complexities of modern-day life. It is honoring to be a part of their journey, and, in that, I feel blessed.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
