I am an experienced and compassionate therapist. My focus is always on spiritual, practical, and recovery strategies tailored to the individual. If you are ready to begin the journey to health, strength and conscious awareness I have the skills to help you attain your goals. I am DEEP and SAP approved. I provide couples therapy as well as individual counseling for children and adults affected by alcoholic and drug addicted family members. I also provide group and individual therapy for anger management.

When we are involved in hardship, loss or trauma it is common to experience struggle and to feel imbalanced by it. I feel passionate to help people recover from these life stressors and then support them in reaching their goals. I work with my clients to help them overcome and cope with their challenges, find value in themselves, discover purpose in their lives and support them in forming healthy relationships. My goal is to work together with each person to help them feel secure, safe, and supported within their lives.

Welcome! Choosing a therapist is a big decision, and I appreciate being considered! While my background and training have focused strongly on child, adolescent and family therapy, I also work with individual women and couples. I sometimes say that I use a "family doc" model of psychotherapy. That is, I might see an anxious child individually and then, because kids' issues are so intertwined with their families will work with the whole family for a period of time. Or I might spend some sessions with an individual woman, who would then like to bring her partner for couples therapy.

The style I use is eclectic and offers compassionate understanding in a relaxed environment that supports growth and personal exploration for individuals and couples. My methods include the use of creative expression through creative play, art, dramatic play, music, puppetry, creative writing, sculpture, painting, and other modalities for clients of all ages. I also offer traditional talk therapies designed for clients to develop solution-focused ideas to their own concerns as the goal is for each client to become their own best expert.

I offer counseling services to children, adolescence, and adults. I have worked with many clients who need to find ways to deal with their anxiety and/or depression and teach them how to trust their own intuition through Equine Assisted Counseling and various treatment interventions including but not limited to mindfulness based stress reduction, strength based and solution focused life coaching, CBT and/or DBT strategies.

My small independent practice is set in central Maine downtown Skowhegan. With a quiet feel many clients comment on how relaxed and homey it feels during their sessions. My goal is to make others feel safe and welcome into the space. I thoroughly enjoy working with Clients to discover their goals, increase their quality of life and unwrap their feelings of self-worth. In a world that is constantly on the go I feel that it is important to take sometime to understand oneself and needs.

I approach therapy from a strong person centered perspective. I believe that all persons have the ability to change. I utilize an active listening, non-judgmental approach that allows clients to utilize their own native ability to solve their own problems. I believe that every person has a strong drive to expand and grow and to achieve their fullest potential. This potential can be frustrated by many of the challenges presented by life but it can never be eliminated. As I see therapy, it is a vehicle for a person to realize and release that innate potential.

Dr. Bush is currently not accepting new patients (updated 01/26/2021). Dr. Loren Bush received his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University New England. He has worked with a wide range of clients across the developmental life span in a variety of clinical settings. These include; university counselling centers, community mental health facilities for children and families, outpatient hospital settings, and private practices.
