I begin with the understanding that everyone has struggles from time to time with primary relationships, work situations, financial stressors, unforeseen change of life circumstances or unresolved grief and loss.
I believe that talking with an empathetic and unbiased therapist can be life changing. The act of hearing yourself articulate what is blocking your process leads to seeing how to resolve problems.

My specialized training and experience include dreamwork, psychoanalysis and play therapy, including an appreciation of the role of your nervous system. I am a gender-affirming and polyamory -affirming therapist committed to helping you develop insights necessary to understand your behavior, relieve your pain and move beyond whatever is holding you back. Together we will get to the root of what is bothering you.

Every human will (and has) experienced grief and loss.
Our lives are impacted from the unhealed hurts from our childhoods. I facilitate processing feelings and emotions, often from childhood. Crying is our natural, healing response to any hurt. However for most of us, our adult care givers were uncomfortable with our crying (healing) and interrupted the crying (healing). They confused crying with hurting. Hurt, is the event that CAUSED the crying. Crying, IS the healing of the hurt. Unhealed hurts impede (color) our reality by creating a filter that’s clogged with unprocessed feelings, emotions, moods and themes. “Broken” does not exist. Old hurts exist and deeply impact us.

Over the past 7 years, I have been working more with elderly clients and their caregivers, focusing on issues around anxiety, loss, aging and transition.
It has been an honor to be practicing for more than 30 years as a psychotherapist, working individually with children, adolescents and adults, as well as with families and couples. I appreciate the amount of courage it takes for clients to enter therapy. My approach is collaborative, based on connection and trust. We work together as a team, forming goals and strategies. My E.F.T.C. (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy) approach has been particularly effective in helping couples enhance their relationship by gaining access to their attachment longings.

I am also a Certified Grief Professional and can help people through the grief process, whether it's a common (old age, failing health, e.t.c.) or non-traditional loss (miscarriage, suicide, pet, e.t.c).
My clients are seeking relief from their mental and emotional ailments. They are typically contemplating changes they want to make and looking for someone to help motivate and hold them accountable, or they want someone to collaborate with to see what options are available. Therapy only works if there is a solid therapeutic relationship between the counselor and their client. If you're needing help and willing to let me walk with you for a bit on your journey, please reach out. I also offer clinical supervision for new or conditionally licensed counselors.

I help people find new ways of relating to their problems by asking very specific types of questions drawn from Narrative Therapy and also by utilizing a brain-based approach called Brainspotting for accelerated insights and resolution of the effects of trauma, loss, and anxiety.
A clouded, anxious mind, a broken heart, a body that won’t quiet down. You have tried things and made progress, but you are still waiting for life to feel brighter and lighter. Maybe you are a young person under so much pressure, uncertain about the future, or you are someone who has endured so many hard things. Maybe you are just tired of feeling so much, of not feeling anything at all. You are wondering if a new path is possible. It is.

I have a special interest in grief and loss of all types.
I am a kind, caring person with a good sense of humor and I believe this helps me to connect with people. Clients are most successful when they are able to see the end goal and what they want to get out of therapy. I help guide clients towards the goal in a supportive, honest way.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
