I am a Counseling intern at University of Southern Maine and am currently accepting new clients! My approach to therapy honors the person as a whole: mind, body, spirit, awareness, and beyond. I extend that honor and respect to every member of our world, and I can help you find and cultivate that same respect for yourself and those in your life.
PRESENTLY NOT ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS. I am a child psychologist and deeply respect parents who seek support for themselves and their children. My therapeutic approach is nonjudgmental, creative, and respectful of each individual's unique experience. I invest significant time and energy in establishing a strong partnership with your child and help him/her develop a personal investment in therapy. By prioritizing these two important elements, I have helped many children who have not benefited from therapy in the past. I also provide a therapeutic experience that is comfortable for children who are initially opposed to or skeptical of therapy.
I have been working in the mental health field for over 20 years. I have worked with and have helped clients who suffer with depression, bi-polar disorder, anxiety, OCD, panic disorders, grief, self esteem issues, anorexia, bulimia and obesity.
I’ve spent 20 years helping other humans transform fear, self doubt, and shame into courage, the ability to take risks, and freedom from the vices that keep us stuck. Learning to have a growth mindset is our most powerful tool for mental & emotional wellness, and enhancing our ability to cope with difficulties. Fully developing our ability to recognize, deal with, and move through uncomfortable feelings is a game changer in life. That work, along with changes to our lifestyle habits and the health of our relationships can help us become our best selves. Therapy can help you develop these skills and improve the quality of your life!
My job is to help you let go of what isn't working for you anymore. I focus on your current issues but also on those longstanding patterns that surface again and again throughout the life span and cause unhappiness. My approach is interpersonal and client-centered, but I also incorporate concrete strategies for symptom alleviation.
What do you look for in a therapist? What's important? Surprisingly, age, gender, years of training and theoretical orientation are not the primary factors correlated with the effectiveness of a therapist. So how do you choose someone? Is it by their picture? The best website? The one that's taking new clients? Finding the right person can be incredibly difficult. Research suggests that the most important factors in positive therapeutic outcomes are the therapeutic alliance, working together to set collaborative goals, and the therapist's ability to be empathetic, accepting and genuine.
I am a client-centered, creative therapist interested in a holistic approach. I am connected to issues faced by the LGBTQ community. I work to support individuals coping with: depression, anxiety, substance use, women's issues, trauma, and relational issues. I also enjoy working with young adults 18-25 who are seeking "next steps" in life. I offer traditional talk therapy, and walk & talk therapy, in the beautiful PNW (sometimes in Maine!) To learn more about the way I work please visit kierstinolivercounseling.com. I believe nature is an incredible co-therapist and try to get outside to move with my clients whenever possible.
*Please email for availability, as I am unable to return all phone calls due to call volume* I work with adults and adolescents who are looking to better manage their emotions, behaviors, and relationships. Many of my clients have experienced trauma that has impacted their ability to accept themselves and others and to see "gray areas" in life. They want to make things better for themselves or their families but may not know where to start. You may have a successful career but struggle in personal relationships, or you may struggle in multiple areas of your life; either way, I can help you find the stability you are looking for.
Hello, my name is Maureen, welcome. You have taken a courageous step to find a therapist who will be a good match. My expertise includes managing difficult transitions, grieving a loss, resolving symptoms of depression, anxiety, healing from trauma, strengthening communication and conflict resolution skills or generally striving for increased personal growth. I am interested in what my client's need to feel a sense of fulfillment, purpose and contentment. I work with individuals and adolescents as well as couples. Please feel free to call, and we can discuss how I may be helpful to you and answer any of your questions.
Painful experiences offer us the opportunity to learn, grow and transform. Moving through guilt, shame, disappointment, learning from mistakes and ultimately shifting into self-forgiveness is a powerful, transformative process. As you move through the pain of trauma you can grow and reach a place of strength and integration. From there, new choices and fresh beginnings are possible.
I am currently accepting new clients for telehealth and outdoor sessions (after initial telehealth intake session). I am a LCSW providing evidence-based psychotherapy to individuals. Treatment modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) through an EMDRIA-certified organization.

*Currently accepting new clients* Take a moment to congratulate yourself for taking the first step in improving your quality of life. As a dually licensed therapist I specialize in both mental health therapy as well as substance abuse and affected other counseling. Although I am able to provide either form of treatment alone, it is often appropriate to combine the two as a treatment for those experiencing difficulties due to the co-occurrence of symptoms, whether they have the substance abuse issue themselves or are affected by a loved one's substance abuse.
I welcome clients of any age, gender, or background who could use some support in working through transitions or changes, understanding and processing difficult emotions and experiences, or dealing with the stressors of day to day life. I have experience working with members of the LGBTQ+ community, with people of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, with children and adolescents, with people of all ages who have experienced trauma and its after effects, and with foster and adopted families.
