Therapists Beginning With H in Maine

My clients are typically men. They usually face pressure from others to address deep-seated patterns in their lives, and they often hope the process will be brief. They are usually stoic and solitary types who may find the idea of counseling uncomfortable or pointless. Often individuals of common sense, they are wary to spend money to have their values and behaviors labeled 'toxic.' They generally want a counselor who might relate to what they are going through — one who isn't afraid to be human. Anger, substance use, divorce, recurring frustration, unhelpful behaviors, and family problems are the most common challenges they face.

It's important to find a therapist who makes you feel safe, valued and understood. I have been working with children and adolescents (ages 8-18) for almost 30 years. My areas of expertise include working with youth who are experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, poor coping skills and trauma. My root philosophy is cognitive-behaviorally based (our thoughts & behaviors are connected and affect each other) but am not a classically trained CBT therapist. I use an eclectic approach using tools from a wide range of theories. I'm committed to treating the whole person and not just a diagnosis or label.

Currently, my practice is full. I offer telehealth and in person sessions, for those who are vaccinated, at this time. I believe there is a great difference between surviving and thriving in life. The most important story you'll ever tell is your own. Therapy is a space where you can explore that story—where you can begin to name the things that have felt too big to understand, and where you can make sense of where you’ve been and where you want to go. It’s not about fixing what’s “wrong” with you; it’s about understanding yourself more fully so you can move forward with clarity and purpose. Finding the right therapist isn’t about choosing the perfect modality—it’s about finding the right fit. Research tells us tthat the most important factor in successful therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist.

Life is full of surprises and challenges that can leave us feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or worse. The death of a loved one, difficult relationships, loss of a job or an ideal, divorce, serious illness, caregiver fatigue-just to name a few-can leave us feeling that we are adrift in uncharted territory. To me, therapy is a process of self-exploration and discovery that can lead to personal growth. This process can help us better manage what life throws our way as we discover and give value to our inner resources and what is most important to us.
