I work in tandem with psychotherapy and neurofeedback to recover your true resilience. I can work in either modality alone, however the two together have a synergistic effect, producing quicker results. Neurofeedback assists in restoring optimal brain health, while psychotherapy can help you become aware of your thinking patterns, and assist you in creating better emotional balance. You can feel awake and deeply connected to the world and others around you again. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, ADD, PTSD or other traumas, I can help free you from old blockages and restore your original, true nature.

I work with people who are part of the BIPOC or LGBTQ+ community as well as folks who belong in both communities living with anxiety, depression, and recovering from trauma. Being in these communities make it challenging to navigate work environments; and maintain healthy romantic relationships and friendships. Additionally, we often need reminders to intentionally seek joy because the world can seem quite by attacking our intersecting identities on a local and global stage. When we start working together, I will remind you to frolic and engage in activities and relationships that help you to thrive.

Through the use of integrative modalities, my goal is to help you find your way so that you can manage symptoms, feel your best, discover who you truly are, and move forward in the direction of your dreams whereby your past no longer holds you back. Using warmth and compassion, I also aim to provide trauma-informed care to discuss your struggles without judgment and safely process unresolved trauma and feelings.

I work with individuals and couples who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or are struggling with communication challenges, imposter syndrome or perfectionism. Those I work with often appear to have everything together to the outside observer, but feel like they are struggling on the inside. Together we'll find ways to give the issues impacting you less power over you and your relationships. We will help you make positive, meaningful changes that will better serve you moving forward.

I treat clients who have depression, anxiety, relationship, and life transition issues.
Life transitions can be expected or unexpected (job loss, break-up/divorce, grief/loss, school beginnings/endings, moving, etc.). What happens when someone is feeling stuck, unable to move forward, maybe replaying the past, or caught up in the future that they are missing out on the now? Anxiety about what may or may not happen or depression about what has or is happening, does affect people in different ways. Whether you already have a support system of family and/or friends or not, a therapist can bring a more balanced perspective into the situation you are facing.

With over 20 years of experience in the mental health and social services fields, I have been able to support clients with a variety of challenges- including anxiety, depression, mood and personality disorders, addiction, loss and trauma.
I believe as individuals, we are constantly evolving and naturally with these changes, they can bring up feelings of uncertainty, resurfacing of past hurts and challenges in adapting- especially when the world and others tend to be changing at different speeds than we are. In these times of struggle it can be difficult asking for help from others so you should feel proud of yourself for taking this first step by looking for that support! My decision to become a therapist derived from my own journey with life's transitions along with my desire to continue to further meet my innate passion for helping others in their times of need.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
