I moved to the Cape 20 yrs ago after developing a private practice in Dallas, TX. I've worked as a Director of and clinician for mental health services agencies and as a hospice social worker on the Cape before starting my own practice 6 years ago. My practice focus is adult individuals experiencing mental health concerns and reactions to life changes. Problems commonly discussed are: depression, anxiety, relationship issues, bereavement, issues of adulthood and late life. I work with clients to help them identify individual needs and then support them as they gain insight into their concerns and develop strategies for change.

Navigating our way through life can sometimes bring with it challenges and hurdles that we don't need to face alone. Finding support through family and friends during these times can often feel uncomfortable and uneasy. I invite you to reach out and schedule an intake if a nonjudgmental, knowledgeable and supportive ear is what you are looking for right now.

We can easily feel stuck in life and not sure of the right way to turn. There are ways to remove the roadblocks while increasing your empowerment and self awareness. But where do you start? Finding the right therapist can be difficult. I strive to create a warm and welcoming place where you can feel safe, cared for, and valued, while providing you with strategies to meet your needs. I have been told that I am realistic, down to earth, and that I create an environment where you can feel comfortable opening up.

Life can be challenging and at some point we all go through rough patches. Some people find that they cannot overcome the problem on their own. Therapy helps to heal wounds, overcome obstacles, and build hope for the future. I believe people seek out therapy already equipped with the tools and qualities necessary to have a happy and successful life. Sometimes these skills are clouded by grief, depression, stress, anxiety, etc. My job is to help you work through those issues by tapping into your natural strengths.

Accepting new clients in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine! You deserve to not be "white knuckling it" through life. And it’s okay (wonderful, even!) to ask for help. As a people pleaser, myself, I understand how incredibly difficult it can be to prioritize what you want and need out of life. I work with women of all ages on several different topics. Clients who struggle with low self esteem and self worth, anxiety, depression and trauma: I am here for you. We will work on identifying your needs, setting boundaries, developing a more assertive (not aggressive, nor passive) voice and much more, depending on what will be helpful.

I work with adolescents and adults to help them overcome obstacles in their lives. Abuse and trauma, when untreated, can have a chronic negative, lifelong impact. When that is the case, we work on what is currently bothersome, while processing old trauma and determining any relationship between them. Transitions such as moves, change of schools/jobs, divorce, etc. can cause various amounts of emotional upheaval and it can make all the difference in going through such a transition or processing leftover feelings from one to have a place to talk in a safe setting with an experienced therapist.

At Leek Therapy, we believe that everyone has a "True Compass" which represents our moral values, intuition, inner guidance, and our true authentic selves. We operate in relation to our true compass as it provides centeredness, & when we feel off-course, our compass needle will reorient and guide us back to our true selves. We can head east then west, accepting help from others along the way, and use our true compass to guide our journey to our ultimate destination."

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
