Not accepting new clients
Currently not accepting new clients. Have you lost interest in activities that used to bring you joy? Do you lack motivation to meet your responsibilities? Do you feel overwhelmed with life's tasks and worry incessantly about the future? Have you had trouble falling or staying asleep? Do you tense up in social situations? If you responded yes to any of the above you are likely experiencing depression and anxiety symptoms. These can be very painful and unfortunately are very common. Avoiding or ignoring these feelings will not make them go away but together we can face them and launch you on a journey to optimal mental health.

I've worked in schools for the last twenty-three years, helping an array of children and teens experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, as well as social, emotional, and academic challenges. I believe that young people are all amazing in their own ways. Children benefit from having someone in their corner unconditionally to help develop skills and strategies in an effort to become increasingly confident, independent, and successful both in and out of school. I value communication with parents to best help each client. I approach all of my clients in a warm and compassionate manner in an effort to develop a strong connection.

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially when life already feels heavy. Managing daily responsibilities while navigating stress, uncertainty, or emotional discomfort can be exhausting—and it’s not always easy to know where to begin. Reaching out for support is a courageous first step, and it’s one I deeply respect. I specialize in working with adults who are motivated for change, eager to deepen their understanding of themselves and their behaviors, and may be currently navigating mild to moderate life stressors. The journey of self-discovery is vulnerable and I would be honored to assist you in that process.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in psychodynamic and relational theories with a focus on facilitating insight and healing. I seek to understand the heart of one’s challenges and how present struggles are tied to one’s past and current environment, relationships, and identity development. My clinical work is informed by cognitive-behavioral approaches, mindfulness, trauma, Buddhism, social identity, and oppression. My therapeutic style is warm, compassionate, and curious, and I deeply value co-creating a therapeutic space with clients that invites authenticity and vulnerability.

Does this sound familiar? You start talking about something small, like weekend plans or a chore, and somehow it spirals into that same old fight. Before you know it, you're both frustrated, nobody feels heard, and you're wondering how you got here... again. That distance between you keeps growing, and despite loving each other, you can't seem to break the cycle. Whether you're a couple preparing for marriage, navigating midlife challenges, or entering retirement, or an individual seeking clarity during life transitions, you want to move beyond feeling stuck. You're looking for practical tools to create meaningful change.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
