Hi there I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) practicing in the field for past 14 years. I believe in providing care with respect, compassion, sensitivity and in a non judgmental way. Life is full of challenges however, in my experience I have realized that most of my clients are equally resourceful. Time and time again I have observed that my clients often resolve their issues with guidance and support. Many of my clients have said that they feel heard and not judged for the decisions they make day in and day out, I believe this is my strength.

If you are looking for a warm, welcoming place to discuss any issue, thought, or problem you've been dealing with without judgment or closed-mindedness, then I could be a great fit for you! I have a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, and I'm licensed as a mental health counselor in Massachusetts. I have a very friendly, laid-back personality and am always eager to help and use a lot of humor in my general approach; however, I am also very comfortable working through serious and difficult subjects in a calm, supportive way. I'm a very happy, positive person and can always find a silver lining in almost any situation!

My patients are people who are open to new ways of interpreting their struggles and motivated to make changes. Their goals for treatment would include: improving their independence, increasing their self-esteem, learning to communicate assertively, and gaining insight into the mental health struggles. They would want to improve their outlook on life and improve their relationship with themselves and the healthy people in their lives.

You want to feel better and do better in your life, and now, perhaps more than ever, you need someone – someone REALLY helpful – “in your corner” to help you turn things around. I’m willing and able to do just that. Together, we can do this: I use a range of solution-focused approaches: treatments that work (CBT, DBT, and whatever else works). We’ll figure out exactly how you’ve “gotten here,” plan a way out, and I’ll guide you along the way…as we activate your strengths and your inner resources to live a better life. I work with adults, teens, and families and I’m available immediately to give you the help you need and deserve.

How do I effectuate change? I believe change occurs from a sustained active approach with the therapist. Why is there a need for change? Many people report affective states of anxiety, depression, and stress that are inhibiting them in their work, personal lives, and enjoyment of life. My education and experience put me in a unique position to give people the understanding to find satisfaction from their personal, family and work life. Therapeutic interactions are in the here and now. Understanding often leads to an improved quality of life; alleviating anxiety, depressive feelings as well as fears of being stuck.

My 20 years of working with adolescents and their families has taught me to approach clients with a non-judgmental, non-authoritative attitude. This helps clients take an honest look at their lives and identify what things need to change or be accepted. Meeting a client without preconceived expectations is critical because it gives me a chance to see the client from her/his own point of view. Also, I work very hard to not act too "therapisty," which is something that often hinders therapy with adolescent clients in particular (e.g., "How does that make you feel?").

My practice provides safe and supportive environment to reduce pressure, discomfort, fear of judgment creating an atmosphere of trust, acceptance, and validation. This setting allows to speak openly about physical, emotional, and psychological concerns, to freely express doubts, believes, thoughts, feelings, emotions, ideas, and concepts. I encourage, but not pressure, exploring difficult situations, traumatic events, defense mechanisms, malfunctioning schema, identifying patterns, values, beliefs, connections between past and present; building on strengths to overcome challenges, realize potential and find meaning.

I am fully certified in two evidence based therapies that are, in my opinion, much better than Cognitive Behavioral Therapy 1) EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and 2) IFS or Internal Family Systems Therapy. Why are they better? CBT has been around a long time but EMDR and IFS are two therapy methods that don't "just scratch the surface" In a very SAFE manner, they go deeper and are VERY effective. I emphasize the word SAFE because NOTHING is ever discussed unless YOU are comfortable discussing it. You're "the boss" as to what we cover/discuss in therapy.

Success has been defined as happiness in our professional and personal lives. Sometimes we struggle in one or both areas, hindered by feelings of disappointment, frustration, anger or sadness. Things can be different; it is possible to live a meaningful, happy life. In psychotherapy and psychoanalysis you have the opportunity to look closely at your life. The intention of this thoughtful examination is to reduce the discrepancy between the life you have and the life you want. For a more complete description of my practice please refer to my website at www.mcaroledrago.com.

If you need direction and support solving a disturbing problem or managing an emotional state, I know that addressing this need quickly is important. I will meet with you within two to three days of your call. My approach to therapy is to focus initially on solving the problem in partnership with you quickly and efficiently. If this does not bring sufficient relief, I invite my clients into a longer deeper process of understanding the situation and its complexities. I encourage the use of communicating via email between sessions. I have evening and Saturday hours available to insure accessibility

By interweaving different types of therapy, we collaborate towards your goals in a way that's effective and respectful of your time, energy and money. Each session can be useful - I track this carefully by asking for feedback and by giving choices on how we work together. The time in-between sessions also is used - through practice 'homework' we choose individually, as a couple or as a family, or through observation/thinking. This helps us to identify what helps you to change or restrains you from change - we can then work together from an attitude of curiosity rather than "shoulds".
