Judy Garland said it best: "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else." I help clients with depression, anxiety, self esteem, "stuck-ness" and relationship issues; and specialized concerns with sexual and gender identity, illness & loss. I see every instance in our lives as an opportunity for evolution. I believe in the search for insight, but also developing practical tools for change. I believe in the value of a good laugh, but also keeping ourselves honest. I believe in the importance of hope and integrity, but also managing expectations & resentments so that we can flourish.

I've worked in schools for the last twenty-three years, helping an array of children and teens experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, as well as social, emotional, and academic challenges. I believe that young people are all amazing in their own ways. Children benefit from having someone in their corner unconditionally to help develop skills and strategies in an effort to become increasingly confident, independent, and successful both in and out of school. I value communication with parents to best help each client. I approach all of my clients in a warm and compassionate manner in an effort to develop a strong connection.

You’re the client who reads self-help books, listens to psychology podcasts, and still wonders why old patterns won’t budge. Maybe anxiety, trauma, or substance use keeps hijacking your plans. You long for relationships that feel real and a life directed by your values, not your fears. You want a therapist who gets LGBTQ+ and non-traditional relationships, honours culture, and speaks plainly. If that sounds like you, I built my virtual practice with you in mind.

Therapy with me is collaborative, practical, and grounded in real life. I work with teens (14+) and adults who are struggling with OCD, anxiety, depression, trauma, or big life changes. Many of my clients feel stuck in cycles of worry, self-criticism, or avoidance, and want concrete tools to feel more in control of their lives again. Together, we clarify what you’re hoping will be different—feeling less overwhelmed, being kinder to yourself, improving relationships, getting back to things you care about—and create a plan to get there.

I am a licensed psychotherapist with experience supporting adults 18+. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that therapy is most effective when it takes place in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space. In our work together, we will explore the challenges you’re facing—whether they involve relationships, anxiety, identity, life transitions, or a sense of feeling stuck. I’ll help you uncover patterns that may no longer serve you and gain insight into how your past shapes your present, with the goal of fostering growth, healing, and meaningful change.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
