Welcome! I'm a remote therapist based in Western Mass and seeing clients in MA and NY. I love connecting deeply with my clients and understanding their life stories, past experiences, relationships, and identities. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process and that you are the expert of your own story. I imagine you in the driver's seat and me in the passenger seat, with you every step of the way, holding the map and offering guidance and support, but understanding that the real growth comes from you.

Are you someone who, due to choice or circumstance, is living life outside the mainstream? Are you an "outsider" in relation to social norms, feeling like you don't fit in or are committed to values or self-expression that make life in the larger world challenging? Perhaps you have been wary of therapy & of therapists judging you because of gender identity or presentation, because of your interest in kink or other forms of sexual expression, or because of your involvement in polyamory or other non-traditional relationship styles. If so, you need look no further to find an open-minded & respectful therapist.

You may be pursuing therapy to increase intimacy or enhance a stable relationship (with yourself or others). Or maybe you're overcome with frustration/grief/anger as, despite efforts, you're stuck in repetitive behaviors or relationship patterns that can no longer be soothed, justified, or ignored. Perhaps you're single or in partnership, suffering from profound loneliness. I can help empower you (and partner(s) to awaken from toxic rules/expectations, and escape the prison of isolation, shame, blame, and silence. This empowerment allows for renewed capacity to give yourself, and those you love, compassion, acceptance, and freedom.

I often find current notions of “behavioral” or “mental” health to be rooted in an inaccurate medical paradigm, and so I prefer to consider social/emotional/spiritual wellbeing; “psyche” literally means “the soul” and thus I see the goal of psychotherapy as to help heal the soul. Depression and anxiety are understandable responses to problematic situations, and I enjoy helping to unravel the complicated dynamics of your lived experience in order to achieve your goals. I often work with people around issues of gender, identity, and culture; I also enjoy working with creative people, and people navigating challenging life transitions.

Hi there and welcome to my profile. People come to see me for many reasons. They may be depressed, anxious, have had past trauma, or difficulty coping with illness or challenging life transitions. My deepest belief over the past 30 years that I have been a therapist is that every human has the power to live the life they are wanting to live. Although I might use various methods to help them, I start from a place of unconditional presence and deep mindful listening. Through individual or group therapy, they find themselves better able to find what will bring them to what they are needing and wanting most in their lives.

Sometimes personal turbulence makes it hard for us to weather the storms in our lives. When we have depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction to substances or simply addiction to negative patterns of thinking, therapy can help us to get on the right track. With nineteen years of experience, I can helpyou to focus and to find solutions . Many people are apprehensive about what therapy can do for them. There are many different modalities or approaches in therapy I can share with you, but I will begin by listening to you, without judgement. My goal is to get to know you as a person first and then, to provide you with input.

I understand psychotherapy as collaborative work. My task is to fully attend with my eyes, ears and intuition to all that my client is offering; the spoken as well as the unspoken, the verbal as well as the non-verbal. It is my client’s task to put into words what their world feels like from the inside. From the resultant dialogue emerges a more complex understanding of their difficulties. Suffering seems an unavoidable feature of living, but articulating it lessens the impact, and insight gained as to its origins and possible meaning suggests the path to positive change.

I would like to to let my future clients know that for over thirty years I have offered compassionate, solution focused therapy to individuals, couples and families who are changing their lives. Many experienced trauma, a painful loss or difficulty in becoming true to themselves. For some, anxiety, depression or debilitating anger create roadblocks to happiness and connection. Others may be managing health issues, having problems with communication, intimacy, gender identification or sexual behavior concerns. It continues to be a privilege and an honor to be asked to walk with them through to happier, more fulfilled lives.

Are you exhausted from imposture syndrome- trying to appear that you have it all together but, deep down, you're struggling and want someone to recognize your pain? Do you feel stuck, possibly by painful past events that keep affecting you or maybe by negative thoughts that keep you in a state of anxiety, fear, and self criticism? Do low self esteem and/or feelings of worthlessness plague you with self doubt and prevent you from believing you can or should work toward a better life? Do you struggle in your relationships with fears of rejection, people-pleasing, and self-sacrificing? If any of this sounds familiar, I can help you.

I believe that, regardless of anything, we all need a little extra support at various times of our lives. Whether this is to get through an especially challenging time, get to know ourselves better, or to have an ear to listen and help us achieve our goals, my therapeutic style is to meet each individual where they are and to support them in gaining the confidence, tools, and skills to get to where they would like to be.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Shelburne Falls?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
