I draw on narrative, CBT, Internal Family Systems, and attachment-based treatment modalities to create a client-centered and effective space for therapy.
I work with adults who are navigating relationship challenges, life transitions, and/or the parenting journey. I help clients orient themselves towards their needs and goals, set and maintain healthy boundaries in their relationships, and develop skills for regulating emotions and managing behaviors. I support my clients in nurturing more loving, trusting relationships with themselves.

Everyone struggles at various points in their lives. This does not mean that struggling has to become your normal state of being. You are right to get help. Therapy can be an incredibly powerful tool to help you, both individually and as a couple. Newly learned communication skills can increase resilience, cultivate personal strengths, and help tackle your challenges head-on. Sometimes, even a few small, practical changes can create real, meaningful change in your life. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, work, or relationship issues, or in other ways, you can explore real change and begin your therapeutic journey.

My work both as therapist and parenting coach is based on the belief that we are all capable of change and growth. The therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of my work, providing a safe and accepting environment where people feel held and deeply heard. I work closely with clients to loosen old patterns, reframe challenging attitudes and beliefs, or heal layers of traumatic experiences. We all struggle with uncertainty; these days more than ever, we need support to develop an orientation that points to possibilities, curiosity and hope. As my mentor says: “If you believe you can break, believe you can repair”.

Check back January 2023 for availability. Psychotherapy can provide a caring and safe space to navigate life's many transitions and challenges -- both expected and unexpected. I approach my work from a place of respect, warmth, and curiosity toward my clients and their concerns. I help clients develop understanding and skills that allow them to reduce symptoms, facilitate personal growth, and make positive changes in their lives. Each client receives individually tailored treatment and, together, we identify and develop therapeutic goals. It is an honor for me to work with individuals on their personal journeys.

Your mind runs in circles going over the past. You want to connect with the important people in your life, but it's hard to stop the buzzing feeling that takes over. Some moments feel fine, but in others you are hit with waves of emotions you can't explain. You have a lot of good things going for you, maybe you have a career, good friends or a loving partner. Somehow it just doesn't feel like enough. You feel exhausted and want to enjoy the life you've been building for yourself. It's time for something to change.

Sometimes life can get a little uncertain, and I am someone who understands. Over the years you have acquired certain strengths and tools that have allowed you to get this far. You felt secure in the knowledge your train was on track and its course was plotted. However, a life event may have thrown you, either slightly or completely, off track. And now you are uncertain which direction you are going in and how to get back on course.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
