I specialize in issues including trauma, depression, anxiety, life-transitions, and relationship issues. I provide therapy to adults, young adults, and students through a personalized approach for each client. I believe that developing a non-judgmental and client-centered approach to therapy is key to feeling better each day. In therapy, a thoughtful review of stressors, trauma, and relationships helps to build a better context around the client's challenges and informs treatment. Therapy involves building an understanding of how past relationships and experiences inform and affect our actions and emotions.

Stress, sadness, anxiety, relationship problems, loss, and challenges at school and work are problems we all face as hu man beings at one time or another. Yet, life doesn't come with an instruction manual, and finding happiness and well-being often seems difficult if not impossible. However, I believe that by understanding some simple principles about the mind and its functioning allows us to tap into our innate wisdom and common sense, make healthier choices, overcome challenges and experience more peace and contentment. I believe change happens in the present through insight, education and understanding, not by delving into the past.

Do you feel like you've lost your way? Perhaps you've experienced a recent job change, divorce, or other life event, and the future seems unbearably uncertain? Maybe your use of substances has taken you so far from your values you don't know who you are anymore? When you work with me we’ll combine a science-based therapeutic approach with a deep love of philosophy to help you find a fuller understanding of yourself and your world. Together, we'll use that robust understanding to identify the gap between the life you have and the life you want and develop tools and goals to close that gap.

This type of coaching (similar to therapy) is often helpful for individuals who struggle with organization, time- management, procrastination, and other issues stemming from ADHD.
I specialize in providing neuropsychological assessments for children, adolescents, and young adults. I utilize a strength-based approach in my evaluations and work collaboratively with parents, teachers, therapists, and other professionals to best understand each patient. I provide diagnostic clarity regarding ADHD, dyslexia, autism, anxiety, and other issues, and offer targeted recommendations individually-tailored to each patient's needs. My goal for every evaluation is to provide a "road map" to help each patient achieve success at school, work, and/or at home.

Through behavioral therapy, we will focus on understanding how to work with negative thoughts, emotion regulation, managing relationships, along with being able to tolerate stress more effectively.
*Certified CBT Therapist* My approach to therapy allows me to conduct solution-focused therapy; meaning that together we will work towards solving whatever questions you may have through changing thoughts and/or behaviors. I also perform Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) where my work focuses on helping people change problematic behaviors. With a teaching style heavily rooted in behavior therapy, I am able to work with people to problem solve in the here and now, where we will work to turn the issues of yesterday and today into a better tomorrow.

Often people who come to therapy have already been struggling for some time: a feeling or way of thinking, relationship concerns, feeling overloaded with work or school, a particular loss or trauma, or just a general sense that something is wrong. You may know what you need, or may be unsure if psychotherapy can help at all. This is where therapy begins. I will work with you to develop a plan of action; if we can't come up with a plan that works for you within our first few meetings, I will connect you with someone who can.

Testimonials: "The Anger Management class was one of the most educational experience I've had in such a short time.
I don’t know exactly where I learned so much about hu man behavior, I think it was between the ages of 14 to 18 when after school I listened to the sad, frightening and unsavory troubles of adults who became my regular callers. The money was appreciated but I was more interested in giving the best advice I could. Post grade school I graduated Boston Latin School and then Boston College. I opened a chain of hair salons and heard more problems. I finished Cambridge College Graduate school with a Master's degree in Counseling and became a licensed MEd, LMHC. My work in a Psych hospital from the bottom to a Director led me here today!

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
