For the past 19 years, I have been a clinical therapist. My clientele covers the adolescent through the geriatric populations. I specialize in a range of affective and anxiety disorders, including Bipolar Disorder, panic attacks, agoraphobia, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and anxiety due to medical conditions. I also work with substance abusers. I use an eclectic approach to therapy. One technique is insight-oriented in which I ask exploratory questions with the purpose of ferreting out what is behind one's problem.

Since completing my graduate degree, I have obtained additional training in child and adolescent psychotherapy, and in comparative psychoanalysis.
Thank you for taking the time today to review my profile. Beginning the process of psychotherapy can feel like a daunting one. Your ability to feel comfortable and at ease with a therapist can only help you to address difficult or painful parts of your life. My patients tell me that they often feel safe and "at home" when they are working with me. I enjoy working with folks who have been suffering from depression, trauma, loss, and substance abuse. Please feel free to call me to talk about scheduling an appointment.

Most healing and growth occur in the context of connections—through enhanced connections to oneself, to others, and to the world. My priority is providing a safe, warm, open, and collaborative environment for my clients. Together we work to address the reasons that bring them to therapy, shift unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling, and responding, and cultivate greater self-understanding, connectedness, and agency. I feel deeply privileged to do this work and join my clients as they journey towards richer, more peaceful and fulfilling lives.

I view therapy as a conversation that puts you in touch with your inner voice and guides you in using its wisdom to make changes. I am warm and down to earth, and I use humor to create a space where you can be yourself while exploring new possibilities for your life. I offer a culturally-sensitive and collaborative approach to helping clients find joy and meaning in their lives. This can happen by navigating a life transition, resolving a relationship conflict, healing from trauma, or managing depression, stress, or anxiety.

Over 30 years of experience has taught me a lot about how to best help the people I see. In my work, I try to listen, with empathy and respect, and to understand what has happened that has brought someone to my office. Clients often find that being able to talk freely in a safe, confidential relationship gives them relief and helps them to develop a clearer sense of the challenges they are facing. Together, the client and I identify the important stressors and conflicts and work on developing strengths and strategies to help cope better.

Judy Garland said it best: "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else." I help clients with depression, anxiety, self esteem, "stuck-ness" and relationship issues; and specialized concerns with sexual and gender identity, illness & loss. I see every instance in our lives as an opportunity for evolution. I believe in the search for insight, but also developing practical tools for change. I believe in the value of a good laugh, but also keeping ourselves honest. I believe in the importance of hope and integrity, but also managing expectations & resentments so that we can flourish.

I am here to foster a supportive and welcoming space for you to explore your process of healing, and to step into the brilliance of and belonging with all that you are. I offer an integrative approach, weaving a compassionate, creative, collaborative, intuitive, embodied, trauma-informed, and skill-based approach to the work. My view of holistic is one that considers the impact of systems on one's self, as well as the use of modalities that support an access to wholeness, and a lens of understanding the mind-body network in order to restore balance.

We only get one life: no re-dos, no re-ups. Now is the time for you to walk into the healing and freedom you so desperately seek but are afraid to reach for. Maybe it's the past pains and hurts, abuses and traumas that continue to affect you today. Maybe it's the weight of depression or anxiety. Whatever it is- today.is.the.day. To that end, there are many therapeutic modalities I work within. It is not the modality so much that matters but the match between client and clinician. I may be the “expert” in psychology but you are the expert in your life and we need each other to make the counseling process a success.

I approach the therapeutic relationship with respect and care, recognizing the vulnerability it may take just to get here. The process of healing looks different for each person, and in my practice I utilize a blend of holistic and practical skills work for mood, self worth and interpersonal challenges typically seen in Complex PTSD or borderline personality disorder. I work with individuals ages 18 and above, and practice from a social justice framework to identify how the external may be affecting the internal. I have special interest in working with young adults on issues of identity and self worth.

Teen Therapists
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence.
