My style is rooted in the idea of collective liberation, and my clients are most often fellow queer people, conscientious parents and caregivers, those living with chronic illness, survivors of relational and systemic trauma; those with body types, cultural identities, family or relationship structures that are non-normative.
We are living through a time of massive sociopolitical disruption; most of us are feeling that stress. Fortification has been and continues to be a main theme of my work with clients. I believe fortifying ourselves for what’s churning emotionally, economically, physically and otherwise is an important part of what we can do in therapy right now.

Clients I’ve worked with longest include those in addiction recovery, couples facing relationship challenges, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals carrying past experiences that still take up space in their minds and lives.
I’ve worked with individuals who’ve felt lost, stuck, or overwhelmed—questioning their relationships, themselves, their emotions, or even their will to keep going. I take a direct yet respectful approach that helps clients uncover inner strengths, gain clarity, and develop new ways of responding to life’s challenges with greater confidence and balance.

All too often, children forgo their authenticity to preserve relationships with attachment figures.
Do you feel nervous or anxious? Does your mind feel like a hamster wheel that never stops? If so, you are not alone, and I’m here to help. I specialize in attachment, anxiety, and mood disorders. I find that root causes of these challenges often stem from childhood attachment wounds, or relationally based trauma. Sometimes this looks like emotionally absent or narcissistic parents, or a parent who struggled with their mental health. Since mood disorders can be hereditary, I am careful to differentiate diagnosable mental health conditions from common trauma responses. My goal is to help you find relief and embrace your authenticity.

You want to stop being haunted by the past and decrease the pain that prevents you from being the person you want to be in your relationships, job, and personal life.
Do you find that you can’t stop thinking about events from the past? Do nightmares make the idea of going to sleep stressful? Or maybe you don’t remember your dreams, but you wake up sweaty with a racing heart? Do your friends and family wonder why you’re shut off; don’t want to spend time with them; or do the things you used to enjoy? Maybe you find yourself getting angry a lot more than you used to. Or find yourself thinking that, “If only I’d done such and such, then things would have been different”, or “It’s my fault that something/blank happened”. Or you’re avoiding certain situations, and it’s harder to function effectively.

I work with adults and couples ready to explore their emotional worlds more deeply and heal from the patterns, wounds, and experiences holding them back from fully living and vulnerably loving.
I'm also a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist. EFCT is a researched approach that helps couples identify patterns of disconnection and restructure their emotional bond to find closeness. We’ll explore the negative cycles that keep you both stuck, work toward rebuilding emotional safety, and then communicating attachment fears and longings.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
