Do you find that you can’t stop thinking about events from the past? Do nightmares make the idea of going to sleep stressful? Or maybe you don’t remember your dreams, but you wake up sweaty with a racing heart? Do your friends and family wonder why you’re shut off; don’t want to spend time with them; or do the things you used to enjoy? Maybe you find yourself getting angry a lot more than you used to. Or find yourself thinking that, “If only I’d done such and such, then things would have been different”, or “It’s my fault that something/blank happened”. Or you’re avoiding certain situations, and it’s harder to function effectively.

When intimacy feels confusing, pressured, or no longer works the way it used to, it can quietly affect your confidence, your relationship, and how you feel about yourself. Erectile dysfunction, low desire, desire discrepancies, infertility-related stress, painful sex, or ongoing sexual concerns can create distance, frustration, and uncertainty. Therapy offers a space to understand what’s happening and begin rebuilding connection in a way that feels natural, grounded, and meaningful.

Life doesn't always fit neatly into a box, and neither do the people I work with. I welcome adults from all walks of life who may be navigating major life transitions, grief, anxiety, depression, addiction, complex mental health concerns, or challenges involving the legal system or family services. I also enjoy working with individuals exploring non-traditional relationships, alternative spiritual paths, and identities that may not always feel understood or accepted by those around them.

I am trained in Trauma-Focused CBT, and utilize other modalities based on clients' unique needs.
Currently accepting new clients. Sometimes making a change in our lives is more complicated than simply "trying our best." I work with clients to uncover their own strengths, and to regain power over the areas of life that feel overwhelming or out of control. My energy is warm and friendly, and past clients have appreciated the chance to explore difficult content in a non-judgmental environment. I treat individuals with PTSD and other anxiety and depressive disorders. Additionally, I work with adult adoptees and adoptive parents.

You can't understand why with all the therapy you have done, you still don't feel substantially better. Sometimes you think it's analogous to knowing all about the parts of a bike and how it works, but you are still unable to actually ride the bike. You know all about your depression, anxiety or trauma - but you don't feel better. I also am an approved assistant teacher and session provider through Somatic Experiencing International.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists
How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?
Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
