Accepting New Patients: Everyone, at some point in their lives, will experience some type of mental health symptom, be it depression, anxiety, loss/grief, addictions to substances or behaviors, and adjustment to major life changes. The good news is that most of us have been using coping skills that we may not even know that we have. Depending on the situation or severity of symptoms, sometimes seeking help to learn new, or healthier coping skills, as well as having someone listen and help prioritize stressors can make a huge difference in our lives and help no longer feel so frustrated, alone and overwhelmed.

I like to think of our treatment connection as a journey and that I am your guide. I help others to gain a better understanding of their situation and to embrace change as a necessary part of life. Life does require us to listen in order to make these changes. My role is to help you listen in a new and different way.

Accepting New Clients. I am a solutions-focused therapist who stresses that therapy does not have to be grueling. Think of it as being on an adventure, it can be hard work but there can be fun and laughter along the way. I utilize an honest, open, skill building approach to therapy. For those wanting to gain a deeper understanding of self, I also enjoy offering the opportunity to explore a spiritual and psychoanalytical perspective. In addition to counseling, I also provide life coaching which offers in the moment solutions for those needing support problem solving and skill building in a specific area.

I am currently offering outpatient mental health counseling from the comfort of your own home. Although virtual therapy is not an ideal fit for all clients, teletherapy enables more convenient access to mental health care. It allows for increased flexibility around a busy work schedule as well as around periods of time when a client may be experiencing illness or other life circumstances that limit their ability to meet in person with a mental health provider. Advancements in technology allow for more clients to access this needed mental health service. Call or email me to explore if teletherapy is the best option for you!

We all experience moments of communication breakdown - when the words don't come out right, or a conversation escalates into a conflict. These struggles bring hurt, anxiety, frustration and self-doubt. We are often left blaming ourselves and each other. You might be questioning your place in a long-term relationship, navigating a complicated dynamic with a family member, or struggling to set boundaries with a friend, coworker, or roommate. Maybe you've tried everything and feel like you are at a standstill.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
