My ideal clients are couples and individuals struggling in relationship. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and I chose this profession because I find helping couples very rewarding. I support clients working through the struggles of not feeling understood, feeling attacked and judged. I teach them how to step back and get curious about each other. As couples begin to understand each other better, the disconnection and discouragement shifts, connection deepens and they learn to work together. I work with them to develop tools for better communication and conflict resolution.

You feel stuck in anxiety, self-doubt, or patterns that keep repeating despite your best efforts. You want more confidence, clarity, and freedom from the past, but the path forward feels unclear. You are ready for more than insight or conversation alone. My work focuses on hypnosis-informed coaching and practical tools that support real shifts in how you think, relate, and live. Together, we create a personal “Owner’s Manual” so you can stop repeating old patterns and begin building the future you actually want.

As a clinical neuropsychologist I work with clients to identify areas of cognitive strength and weakness and relate those patterns to known profiles of brain-behavior relationship. The process involves an interview, collateral contacts, and carefully selected standardized assessment of brain and emotional functioning. A neuropsychological evaluation may help identify dementia, direct therapies after traumatic brain injury, or tease out ADHD from learning disorder and other developmental conditions.

You're not lazy. Motivation doesn't exist in a vacuum. For you to make a change, you have to be convinced it's worth your effort; you need to know that changing will help. A lot of problems that bring folks to therapy (drinking/smoking too much, doom scrolling, binge-eating, isolating, "lack of motivation") are strategic ways of avoiding a larger problem. We start doing these things to help or cope in the short-term, and sometimes it's at the cost of our long-term well-being. Counseling can help you find your balance. (I currently ONLY have consistent availability for morning and early afternoon appointments)

***NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS*** My overarching approach is Relationship-Based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. I find that integrating CBT with key therapeutic relationship factors such as validation, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness produce the best outcomes. When appropriate, I also utilize such approaches as mindfulness, acceptance, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) skills, and Trauma-Focused CBT and Prolonged Exposure for trauma. My goal is to not only reduce the distress from your presenting problems but also improve your overall well-being and experience personal growth across many facets of life.

I'm passionate about working with people who are finding life to be overwhelming and exhausting. Maybe you're heartbroken over loss, burdened with guilt, feeling you'll never be good enough, are scared, or at wits' end. Or maybe something happened to you, and it sticks with you giving you no rest. When we feel this way, we tend to isolate, berate ourselves, and spiral in our thinking or distract ourselves from these debilitating feelings. You're not alone. These feelings and responses are common, and there are evidence-based treatments to help you take the helm and steer your own ship in life.

I've worked in schools for twenty seven years, helping an array of children and teens experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, as well as social, emotional, and academic challenges. I believe that young people are all amazing in their own ways. Children benefit from having someone in their corner unconditionally to help develop skills and strategies in an effort to become increasingly confident, independent, and successful both in and out of school. I value communication with parents to best help each client. I approach all of my clients in a warm and compassionate manner in an effort to develop a strong connection.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
