I work within a Relational Therapy framework, integrating Emotionally Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based and Mind/Body practices with traditional talk therapy.
I work with individuals and couples seeking to understand and resolve issues that get in the way of a fulfilling life and satisfying personal relationships. Whether struggling with longstanding issues or recent life transitions, we may find ourselves locked into familiar but uncomfortable patterns that prevent us from engaging fully in our lives. I offer a collaborative and attentive presence as we explore the emotions and behaviors that drive those patterns, deepen our understanding of the forces that have shaped you, and identify ways to work toward a more engaged and joyful life.

I have a passion for providing the best services to my clients and am trained in mulitple evidence-based therapies for individuals (CBT, DBT), parents, and couples ( EFT , Gottman).
I am a licensed clinical social worker and former Yale University faculty member. I have almost 20 years of experience working with a variety of ages: children and families, adolescents, adults and couples. I believe that my clients are the experts on their own lives and that my role as a therapist is to facilitate and empower personal growth. In therapy sessions I combine active listening and empathy with teaching clients new skills they can use to better regulate their emotions and change their behavior. I also help clients to develop greater self-awareness and insight so they can better understand themselves.

I do Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT ), and use this evidence-based model as part of my therapy to help couples reconnect.
At the heart we all long for feelings of closeness, care and connection with our partner. When we experience these feelings we are able to relax in the field of that closeness through life’s challenges and joys. The days feel easier, softer, more manageable. Naturally, relationships go through difficult times, but it can be tough when we get caught up in negative emotional cycles with our partner. When we feel our needs don't matter, or that no matter what we do we just can’t get it right, frustration and anger can dominate. This can lead to us to lash out or pull away, creating even more distance just when we long to feel close!

I've completed formal training in CBT, DBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and grief counseling, and have experience working with clients in the LGBTQ, alt sex, and poly/ENM communities.
Life transitions can often cause us to feel overwhelmed. While people close to us may be supportive, we may not always feel able to share with them our doubts and discomfort. Having an empathic therapist who can objectively help us navigate the journey is invaluable. My work with clients who have struggled with depression and anxiety, survived trauma or grief, or experience the world as LGBTQ+ identified people is strengths-based, person-centered, and results-oriented.

Evidence-informed using gold-standard models (Gottman Method Couple Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Pragmatic Experiential Couples Therapy).
Since starting this center in 2010, my goal was always to gather a hand-picked team of passionate, forward-thinking, engaged couples therapists. The idea was to go beyond just a shared clinical practice, to form a learning group dedicated to staying abreast of the most cutting-edge treatment in the field. We meet regularly, each of us specialists in our way, to combine our talent and advance our training with colleagues and shared consultants. Our approach is grounded in hard-nosed scientific evidence balanced by a wealth of practical experience, refined technique, and a real compassion for what people are going through.

I am currently studying Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT ) for couples and I am a candidate at Western New England Institute for Psychoanalysis (WNEIP).
I see my role as a guide in the process of acquiring the self-knowledge necessary to lessen suffering and increase freedom and flexibility in your life. A space of privacy and non-judgment helps us get to know both your vulnerabilities and strengths. The value of therapy lies in a consistent relationship with someone who is actively working to understand you, who accepts you for who you are, and who can help you to make meaningful life changes.

Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT ) is a dynamic, experiential approach that helps people access core emotions and find fulfilling connection thru secure attachment.
I support people to transform life's challenges into a mosaic of internal wisdom. I passionately embrace the power of loving relationships to help shift from feeling burdened by past wounds to compassionate self-acceptance. I facilitate secure attachment and fulfilling relationships. My natural empathy offers a safe space to heal emotional wounds, ruptured relationships, limiting behaviors, non-supporting beliefs, attachment injuries, trauma, loss, grief. In Internal Family Systems (IFS), we access our Core/Wise Self (intrinsic wholeness) - compassion, confidence, calm, creativity, courage, curiosity, connection. In deep Self-attunement, we gently invite wounded internal parts to come forth and heal.

I’m a licensed psychologist who specializes in women’s and parental mental health. Juggling all the needs of self, children, partners, work, & daily life demands can result in an overwhelming loss of control and losing one’s “self,” which takes a toll on social, physical, & emotional wellbeing. Whether you’re trying to find your new normal after the newest addition to your family, dealing with relationship challenges, experiencing postpartum depression or anxiety, trying to process a traumatic birth or NICU experience, or struggling with grief or family trauma, I’m here to help.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
