I've worked in schools for the last twenty-three years, helping an array of children and teens experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, as well as social, emotional, and academic challenges. I believe that young people are all amazing in their own ways. Children benefit from having someone in their corner unconditionally to help develop skills and strategies in an effort to become increasingly confident, independent, and successful both in and out of school. I value communication with parents to best help each client. I approach all of my clients in a warm and compassionate manner in an effort to develop a strong connection.

I am currently getting my Masters at Merrimack College for my LMHC. My ideal clients are teens and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, or a general sense of feeling lost. They might be navigating life transitions, questioning their direction, or simply overwhelmed by everyday life stressors. Deep down, people want to feel grounded and secure again. Looking for healthier coping strategies, a better understanding of themselves, and most importantly; a sense of meaning and purpose with the life that they have. They want to get better, but they might not know where to begin. .

I'm passionate about creating a space where you can be completely yourself without worrying about judgment. As a licensed psychologist, I've been fortunate to train in a variety of settings from college counseling centers to specialized anxiety clinics which have taught me that there's no "one-size-fits-all" approach to therapy. I have particular experience working with anxiety and OCD, and I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in my work. My background as a teacher and coach before becoming a psychologist really shaped how I see therapy it's about meeting you exactly where you are and walking alongside you.

Twenty year Harvard University affiliation as student and medical school faculty. Author of award winning books on mind and spirituality. Each person is unique in development and place on their life path. I try to meet each person's needs, guiding each at the proper pace; eventually to arrive at peace and kindness. This may begin by addressing the practical issues of daily life. But peace is found by quieting the mind and coming to rest in your source, your Heart. Usually attention is absorbed in thoughts about the outer world and its dilemmas. Attention is more fruitfully directed toward joy and the immanent beauty of life.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
