My approach is eclectic and combines both insight-oriented and cognitive behavioral techniques including exploring the influence of the past on the present, recognizing and changing self-destructive patterns, and integrating mindfulness exercises which calm the nervous system and equip people to tune in to the present moment and make more thoughtful and effective decisions.
As a psychotherapist, I listen carefully and work collaboratively with each client in forming a safe and accepting relationship. This relationship provides the basis for exploration, problem solving, healing and growth. I have an interactive style which incorporates warmth, humor, authenticity and direct feedback as I help my clients work through areas in which they feel stuck, unhappy or overwhelmed. These areas may include marital and other relationship difficulties, anxiety around life transitions, concerns about parenting or caring for aging parents, coping with illness, and dealing with breakups along with many others.

Life is not easy and sometimes people go it alone. The opportunity to heard, to be understood, and to be accepted is a very powerful one. My aim as a therapist is to provide that opportunity. In over 40 years of practice, I have helped people to understand that survival strategies of the past may now be the source of struggle in their lives. With that understanding in mind it is possible to make changes, alleviate suffering and move through life with greater ease and appreciation. To that end, I incorporate Focusing, Mindfulness, and Cognitive approaches where they may be useful.

My work is rooted in mental wellness, built from a trauma informed integrative model & infused with evidenced based practices such as CBT, ACT & Mindfulness.
I often hear my clients say, “I wish I had started therapy sooner!” That doesn’t have to be you. Is therapy hard at times? Absolutely! It’s also an extremely rewarding personal growth opportunity that many define as “Life-Changing.” For over a decade, I’ve helped clients thrive personally & professionally as they learn to heal/manage: 1) Mental Health 2) Self-Confidence 3) Imposter Syndrome and 4) Relationships. Through experience gained in the US & abroad, I’ve developed a therapeutic style described as empowering, collaborative & interactive. I truly believe each client is HUMAN & not their symptoms, life stressors, or illness.

I integrate cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, play therapy, & mindfulness techniques.
From the very first session, I collaborate with clients and families to address their current challenges so that they can bring greater joy, peace, and acceptance into their lives. So often, our difficulties stem from unhealthy, long-standing patterns that weave through development and influence how we see ourselves, relationships, & the world around us. I help clients to deepen their understanding of their challenges and strengths in order to more effectively reach their goals.

My own mindfulness meditation practice is central to "walking the walk” & cultivating core values, focus on truth telling, 12 step recovery is supported in psychotherapy.
I'm a Psychotherapist in Private Practice for 40+ years, with an enduring capacity to blend psychological/spiritual principles and practices, women's health rights & power, and often help cultivate the willingness to break through thought/behavior patterns to experience real change. We often live our lives as though we're trying to measure up to other's expectations, failing to make choices that are our own. My passion is to help people to break that spell, choosing for themselves how to live the life they are meant to live, not the lives others want them to live. This is a serious intentional and joint process to join.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
