My other specialty is in the treatment of trauma: particularly with survivors of interpersonal violence,
sexual abuse
/
assault
; and sudden or traumatic loss and grief.
I have a diverse private practice providing treatment for couples and some individuals and families. My style is interactive and engaged, partnering with you to understand your strengths and resilience. We will work together to discover the changes you want to make, improve your communication and resolve the conflicts that will lead you to have the life and relationships you want. I have a specialization in couples therapy, especially, (but not limited to): working with affairs, changes in family structure or dynamics, improving communication, rediscovery of your love and even making a "good" divorce if that is what you have chosen.

I provide Intensive Therapy Retreats. This treatment approach involves half day (i.e. 9AM-12PM, or 1 PM-4 PM), one-day long (9 AM-4 PM), or consecutive days working with me one-on-one. With this format you can make significant progress in your healing journey in a shorter period of time compared to the hour-per-week format. The retreat can be gentler on your nervous system, with more time to get to the heart of the matter and provide care once we get there. One to two half days a month works well for busy professionals as an alternative to once a week therapy.

If you're reading this your journey toward wellness has already begun and you've decided to answer the call for more. The journey is worth it, but, as you've discovered, not easy. Sometimes it's unclear where to even start or go next. There are times we are overwhelmed by our emotions making it feel unsafe to take one more step or have blocked feeling altogether. Beloved, being well and healing IS possible and the process, though undoubtedly uncomfortable and uniquely yours, does not have to be gone through alone.

All human beings have within themselves the capacity for living happy, meaningful lives. We are meant to thrive, however it is quite common for distressing life experiences to interfere with our natural way of being. Sometimes obstacles are known to us, but have been resistant to change. Others remain hidden, but what we do notice clearly are psychological and emotional symptoms of distress (depression, fear and anxiety, emotional reactivity, irritability, addictions, etc.). These symptoms can significantly impact our quality of life, and almost always cause problems in relationships.

Are you dealing with anxiety, sadness, shame, grief, trauma or stuff you really want to let go of in your life? Or perhaps you are feeling a sense of not being good enough, struggling with confidence and self-criticism? Pain may show up as feeling numb or angry, withdrawing from school or work, family and friends. Hiding the stress doesn't help you feel better. My approach is collaborative and non-judgmental, focused on helping you deal with pain from the past and deal with present challenges with greater ease and confidence. If you'd like to feel better about yourself and your life, I can help you get there.

Accepting Clients - Memories from the past flash across your mind – bits and pieces of the worst thing that ever happened to you. You find yourself thinking about all the things you wish you could have done differently and playing out all of the "coulda, shoulda, wouldas". You're feeling constantly on edge, people tell you you're a control freak, and you just can't seem to ever let your guard down. It's exhausting and you're fed up with feeling this way. You're willing to put in the work to feel better - if you only just knew where to start or how to make yourself feel better. You need help, but just don't know how to start.

I specialize in working with clients who have ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD. By collaboratively developing goals of treatment, I help clients identify, understand and address both current struggles and the childhood roots of these struggles. This approach is especially helpful to clients who had difficult, invalidating or traumatic childhoods. I help the client: to be compassionate with themselves, to honor yet process difficult to bear emotions, and to change behaviors. I work best for clients: who want self understanding, who appreciate a thoughtful, safe space, and, who are willing to do the work to make these changes happen.

I am currently accepting new clients. I work from compassion, strength-based, humanistic approach. I join clients on their journey and allow them to lead while guiding them when needed. I focus on play and art therapy with younger aged children. I believe that young children often know what they need to process and with support are able to do so through various forms of play. I combine mindfulness and grounding exercises with looking into your past and how those past experiences affect you currently. And through utilizing mindfulness you can sit with, understand and work through the feelings that are impacting you.

We are born inherently intact, hard wired to experience life fully in all its beauty. By no fault of our own, life often leads us astray from our true nature, and we are left depressed, anxious, traumatized: hurting. By choosing to enter a therapeutic relationship with a caring other, I strongly believe that we can reconnect with that core energy and vitality. Therapy can be the vehicle to healing the mind, connecting with our core spirit, and achieving the personal growth and fulfillment that we all seek as humans. I would be honored to be that caring other and accompany you on your journey of healing and fulfillment.

I am currently accepting new clients beginning in June! Children and adolescents often develop challenging behaviors as a way of expressing their inner thoughts and feelings that they don't have the words to explain. I help give youth a voice through creating a trusting environment where they feel safe to explore emotions, share thoughts, and develop solutions. I use unique interventions tailored to your child's strengths in order to foster a space where they feel supported and motivated to change.

We begin from where you are, knowing that healing happens from the inside out. It helps to have help with this! It takes guts to trust a new person with intimate issues. Comfort with your therapist is necessary. Thank you for considering me as that ally. I create a safe environment to explore important and often uncomfortable life issues. This can help unburden you to move forward into a more satisfying, fulfilling, and happy life.

Seeking mental health care can be difficult and daunting for some individuals, as well as finding the right therapist. My initial goal when meeting with new clients is to create a comfortable environment to get to know you better. My focus throughout therapy is to facilitate positive change, identify patterns that get in your way, and help you build a life worth living. Part of that process invites you to acknowledge your inner strengths and autonomy, while challenging yourself in new ways, even if it's hard. I truly love this work and feel extremely fortunate to be able to do it.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
