Are you burdened by worrisome thoughts, feelings or behaviors? Are you entangled in relationship patterns that trouble you and hold you back? Therapy can provide a safe, collaborative space to share and examine your most sensitive problems. Together we can think deeply about how you've come to be who you are, including how you tend to view yourself and relate to others. My approach is compassionate and genuine, gently challenging, and sometimes humorous. Over time my patients find that change becomes possible and there is opportunity for new choices and new beginnings.

Over the past 20 years I have learned that my clients come to therapy to be heard, understood, and to make sense of the complicated issues and relationships in their lives. People begin therapy for many reasons; feeling stuck, overwhelmed, confused or consumed with anxiety and depression. Couples come to therapy to improve their communication, to increase their co-parenting skills, or to enhance their emotional and physical intimacy. A good psychotherapy relationship can improve your feeling of well-being. It can be helpful during periods of transition and provide a safe place to explore past traumas or recent losses.

I work with adolescent girls and young women (15-25) with a specialization in self esteem , anxiety and depression. Through my 18 years as a therapist, I have come to believe that every challenge or trauma we face in our life is an opportunity for healing. Whether you are wanting a safe space to reflect on day to day challenges (friendships, dating, adjusting to college) or are looking to learn coping skills for managing overwhelming feelings, I am here to help. I don't see a therapist as someone there to "fix" a person (because people are not broken) but as someone to help guide you back to your internal resiliency + intuition.

If you have difficulty with professional or academic advancement, establishing or sustaining intimate relationships-if habitual behavioral patterns (i.e. inhibitions, anxiety, impulsiveness, lack of assertion or self-esteem) are interfering with achieving your goals, speaking with a therapist can help you discover why. I am an experienced clinician with extensive training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. I see adults in weekly psychotherapy and multiple sessions per week are available to individuals interested in engaging in a deeper therapeutic dialogue.

I am accepting new clients! Life's journey can be full of crisis, loss, grief and trauma. These experiences activate fear in the primal brain, alter patterns of behavior, limit ones perception, lead to relationship issues, low self-esteem and addictions. If these problems are left unresolved, they can lead to physical and mental health problems as well as a weakened spirit, affecting ones core vitality for life. My spiritual approach provides clients with a safe, nurturing and compassionate environment where trust is easily built within the therapeutic relationship so that healing can take place.

Helping your teen to feel comfortable and seen is my priority. I believe that true growth cannot happen outside of a warm, safe relationship. There is so much happening developmentally for teens and having a judgement-free space to slow down, unpack thoughts/feelings and gain clarity/awareness can lead to immense empowerment and growth for young people.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
