We work flexibly and organically as a partnership on whatever schedule makes the most sense for you and your child to customize a program for your entire
family
that will create positive change.
I offer home-based life coaching for teens, 20-somethings, athletes, adults, and their families in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and beyond. I work with clients at home in a positive, flexible, proactive way, emphasizing measurable, practical, and sustainable change. My approach is relaxed, non-hierarchical, and results-oriented. Although I also work with adults, I primarily help teens and 20-somethings, from kids who lack confidence and/are overly stressed or anxious to those with athletic/academic performance issues or who are really acting out, having issues with anger, substance abuse, school refusal and the like.

I treat people with
family
conflicts and relationship issues, as well as those experiencing grief and loss.
I believe that therapy is a journey towards growth and change. Over the past thirty years, I've had the honor of sharing this journey with adults of all ages, as well as adolescents and children. In the beginning, I often help people with an immediate problem or crisis. My personal style is warm, supportive and interactive. I draw from cognitive behavioral techniques, which stress concrete, behavioral change. Gradually, I create a safe space where we can establish a trusting relationship. People begin to identify the patterns they want to change. They replace old behaviors with new ones.

We deal together with issues around relationships,
family
problems, self image and confidence.
I am a clinical social worker working in the field of relational therapy for over thirty years. I believe that we are all hard wired for connection with others but that often experiences and traumas from the past interfere with one's ability to have healthy, growth enhancing relationships with others and with oneself. Using relational therapy, mindfulness and relaxation techniques, I work with people to enable them to find their way into healthy connection with themselves and with others in their lives.

Whether you are searching for couples' or individual counseling, I can help you get started. Maybe you've reached a stumbling block in your relationship. Communication is often at the center. I am practiced in spotting differences in learning and communication styles,
family
culture, belief systems, and more, and helping you to develop skills to move forward. Perhaps depression or anxiety is what limits you in your life or your relationship. You're feeling lonely, sad, unmotivated, or you struggle with worry and fear, both of which are compromising your sleep, impacting your work or social life, leaving you feeling exhausted.

As a former cult member, I help people and their families who have been "unduly influenced." I am committed to helping people reclaim their personal power. I wrote Freedom of Mind: Helping Loved Ones Leave Controlling People, Cults and Beliefs (2013), a 30th-anniversary edition of Combating Cult Mind Control (2018) and The Cult of Trump (2019). I help people from all over the world who have found that mental health professionals unless they are specialized in treating cult members, are at best a waste of time and resources, and worse, do further harm. A large part of my practice is short term work with former members.

It can feel overwhelming to be proactive about making positive changes in our lives. Everyone has their own complicated life circumstances related to
family
, work, relationships, and mental and spiritual well being. Therapy can be an essential tool to work to un-complicate these circumstances and focus on making happiness and wellness a daily priority. When we feel overwhelmed with worry or that it's impossible to accomplish daily tasks we feel powerless. I have been in this field for over 10 years and can provide a supportive and empathic environment in which we can work together on specific goals and changes for your life.

I hold a Graduate Certificate in Trauma Studies from Lesley University and a certification for Compassionate Bereavement Care offered by the Center for Loss and Trauma in partnership with the MISS Foundation and the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Family
Trust to be able to support those experiencing the effects of traumatic grief due to the death of a loved one.
In a grief-averse society that says to "get over" or "move on" from the death of a loved one, in a medical system that pathologizes bereavement as a disorder as early as one year after someone's death, in social circles that force toxic positivity, platitudes, and unsolicited advice on grieving folks, I long to offer a different presence. I come alongside traumatically bereaved children and families to offer meaningful and non-judgmental support in the wake of an unexpected or violent death, or after a prolonged illness. Death and trauma generate complex grief responses that deserve to be heard, honored, explored, and integrated.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
