I work with clients about their
relationship
issues. Sometimes this involves problems with partners, parents, siblings, or children and sometimes this is about the
relationship
a person has with him/her self.
The lack of meaningful/successful relationships is often a factor in people seeking therapy. The ensuing symptoms may be in the form of anxiety or depression.
I like to meet with the people involved in the
relationship
problems, although the therapy often starts with a series of solo appointment.
I view initial meetings as a consultation to check out the goodness of fit between a person's needs and my professional skills.

My therapeutic ethos is strength-based and
relationship
-oriented, guided by the creative process.
When we unlock our creative potential, joy can blossom and grow. Through nurturing our creative self-expression, we can discover deeper avenues of empowerment,
relationship
(to self and others), and healing. As a Dance/Movement Therapist, I believe in the importance of the mind-body connection, and gently invite my clients to integrate breath, play, movement, music, poetry, embodied story-telling, art and other forms of imaginative expression into our sessions. I encourage all who enter our healing space to explore the innate wisdom of the body through mindful movement, and discover one's own empowered form of expression.

Lauren's clients include individuals,
couples
, adult family members, executives, and business partners.
We're born with tremendous potential. Growing up, we respond to our life conditioning and experiences by habituating thought and behavior patterns, some of which hinder our potential. These patterns follow us into adulthood, and their cumulative outcomes create our lives. Internationally bestselling author Lauren Mackler's Illumineering method is a groundbreaking modality to help you transform limiting patterns, and achieve the personal and professional results you seek.

I am accepting new clients! Life's journey can be full of crisis, loss, grief and trauma. These experiences activate fear in the primal brain, alter patterns of behavior, limit ones perception, lead to
relationship
issues, low self-esteem and addictions. If these problems are left unresolved, they can lead to physical and mental health problems as well as a weakened spirit, affecting ones core vitality for life. My spiritual approach provides clients with a safe, nurturing and compassionate environment where trust is easily built within the therapeutic
relationship
so that healing can take place.

Over the course of my thirty-plus years of practice as a psychologist, carrying a family legacy of suffering during the Holocaust, I have come to believe in the power of compassion and human
relationship
, the possibility of healing from trauma and loss, and the existence of the uncanny and miraculous.
As a psychotherapist, I help clients better understand how we carry old wounds of hurt, loss and trauma into the present and how those wounds affect the way we manage our lives and relationships. Life stress--marriage/divorce, parenting, vocation, illness, loss--as well as the challenges of the lifecycle itself--young adulthood, midlife, senescence--can stir up old, unprocessed turmoil. Having been trained in psychodynamic, family systems and EMDR, I strive to attentively, compassionately and actively engage with my clients so that they might free themselves of old wounds and current impasses to live more loving and whole lives.

I treat people with family conflicts and
relationship
issues, as well as those experiencing grief and loss.
I believe that therapy is a journey towards growth and change. Over the past thirty years, I've had the honor of sharing this journey with adults of all ages, as well as adolescents and children. In the beginning, I often help people with an immediate problem or crisis. My personal style is warm, supportive and interactive. I draw from cognitive behavioral techniques, which stress concrete, behavioral change. Gradually, I create a safe space where we can establish a trusting
relationship
. People begin to identify the patterns they want to change. They replace old behaviors with new ones.

It is ultimately this
relationship
that gives clients the courage and strength to finally go out on their own.
I know how difficult it is to make that phone call and admit that you need help. Because of my personality, education and experience, I am able to make people feel comfortable to finally open up to someone and to let me help them. The quality of the therapeutic
relationship
is more important than any theoretical approach and it is this
relationship
that I focus on nurturing and it is this
relationship
that keeps clients coming back through the years, when they encounter hardships.

My work with adults,
couples
and adolescents is tailored to embrace the unique personal histories, aspirations, cultural and religious backgrounds, sexual orientations and stages in life of my patients.
Are you burdened by worrisome thoughts, feelings or behaviors? Are you entangled in
relationship
patterns that trouble you and hold you back? Therapy can provide a safe, collaborative space to share and examine your most sensitive problems. Together we can think deeply about how you've come to be who you are, including how you tend to view yourself and relate to others. My approach is compassionate and genuine, gently challenging, and sometimes humorous. Over time my patients find that change becomes possible and there is opportunity for new choices and new beginnings.

No one is born a parent. Parenting, and especially co-parenting, can be even more challenging when partners disagree, or when larger issues about the marriage or a divorce arise. I help parents understand how to be the best mothers and fathers they can be for their children, and how to work together to support them even under difficult circumstances.
I also work directly with
couples
and families experiencing conflict (together or as individuals), and can provide divorce and family mediation when needed.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
