As a Clinical Social Worker spanning 25 plus year, I have worked within a number of settings and populations, specifically with children, adolescents and families. I now primarily focus on adolescents and young adults who are struggling with a variety of issues. This transitional point in their lives can be fraught with stress, anxiety, decisions and emotional upheaval. I believe that everyone is doing the best they can and strive to live their best possible life. My role is to help achieve their goals and get back on track and learn to manage the obstacles that may interfere with their goals.

Helping your
teen
to feel comfortable and seen is my priority. I believe that true growth cannot happen outside of a warm, safe relationship. There is so much happening developmentally for teens and having a judgement-free space to slow down, unpack thoughts/feelings and gain clarity/awareness can lead to immense empowerment and growth for young people.

I graduated from U Mass Amherst with a PhD in Clinical Psychology in 1998 and, since then, had a rich and varied career as psychotherapist, clinical and organizational consultant and director of
adolescent
and child programs.
When I meet my clients for the first time, we may decide to seek solutions to ADHD, OCD, anxiety or depression. Parents may be looking for a resolution to a child's school under-achievement, home conflict or social disconnection. In each situation, my belief is that therapy supports skill development and fosters a sense of balance, or equanimity.

Weclome, so glad you found your way here. I’m a good fit to help you if you are: A mom with a new baby, not feeling the joy, feeling isolated, lonely, or anxious. You are on bedrest in a high risk pregnancy, wondering how you are going to get through this. You have a child or
teen
with ADHD and the systems in your kid's life and your family need revamping. You are a burnt out or ADHD mom yourself, constantly late and forgetting things, scrolling your phone for hours instead of going to sleep. You are a mom who is an adult daughter of a narcissistic mother (or wonder if you are).

Over the years as a therapist, I have found that the common theme amongst my clients is not their diagnosis or their problems but their deep desire for Calmness, Clarity & Connection. They seek therapy because something is not right in their lives and they want to find a better way. The ingredients to healing are found in these three elements. Whether it is through individual therapy,
teen
support/skill building, The c3 Method or even within the audience of my public speaking events, my clients engage in a process that leads them away from their struggles to a place of Calmness, Clarity and Connection.

I work with
adolescent
girls and young women (15-25) with a specialization in self esteem, anxiety and depression. Through my 18 years as a therapist, I have come to believe that every challenge or trauma we face in our life is an opportunity for healing. Whether you are wanting a safe space to reflect on day to day challenges (friendships, dating, adjusting to college) or are looking to learn coping skills for managing overwhelming feelings, I am here to help. I don't see a therapist as someone there to "fix" a person (because people are not broken) but as someone to help guide you back to your internal resiliency + intuition.

I believe that most children and adolescents can benefit from connecting with another adult to help them sort through their struggles, even short-term. Working in schools for the past 18 years has taught me how to work collaboratively with all the people in your child's life to help them to achieve success. I am able to see the "whole child" as a result, and treat accordingly. I have found that child and
adolescent
therapists are few and far between, and I hope to be a resource to you.

My practice also includes private supervision to other therapists in child,
adolescent
and adult therapy.
I have been in practice for 25 years and work in my private, comfortable home office. People find me easy to talk to and often say I have the right balance between empathy and challenging them when necessary. People come to therapy because they are having difficulties handling their emotions in their work (or school) and personal relationships.
As an Adult and Child Psychoanalyst, I have considerable experience working with a wide range of people from 3 years old and up to mature adulthood. I particularly like working with preschoolers, under-achieving "gifted" children, seemingly "lost" adolescents, adults and Seniors dealing with aging and retirement.

I see individuals with a wide range of ages and presenting concerns, however I specialize in treating anxiety, OCD, and in
adolescent
psychotherapy.
With any and all presenting concerns, I provide a warm, non-judgmental environment. I have an integrative approach, with a particular focus on motivational enhancement, insight oriented exploration of past experiences, and when appropriate, specific tools and coping strategies. I use a number of research backed cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) protocols, which are proven to be effective in treating anxiety and depression. However, I am careful to use these methods in the context of a client centered and welcoming environment which accounts for an individual's particular needs, experiences, and readiness to change.

More than anything, my passion lies in walking with clients during identity developing times (
teen
years, gender and sexual orientation identity, and early parenthood).
Beginning therapy can be a daunting process and I hope that I can help getting you started as simple as possible. I utilize an empathetic, strength-based approach, with foundations in DBT and CBT. I believe that each person’s journey is unique and successful treatment happens by meeting the client where they are at and taking a collaborative approach to help them reach their goals. I specialize in working with youth, LGBTQI+, and peri and postpartum individuals.

In addition to private practice, I worked for 8 years at
adolescent
acute care programs at McLean Hospital and carried an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School.
I provide intensive psychotherapy to adolescents and young adults, giving them the space to process the challenges they are facing while also helping them to gain insight into how they can more effectively manage their emotions and behaviors. I utilize interventions and strategies from cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy in a flexible way in order to tailor treatment to my clients' needs. When appropriate, I offer parent guidance and/or family therapy to help my clients to communicate their needs more effectively and to be better understood by their supports.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
