Personal life transitions,
relationship
challenges, and school or career junctures present ideal opportunities to engage a therapist. By developing self-awareness and committing to improving outcomes in one's work and personal life, individuals often achieve far more than they'd previously imagined. As a psychologist and coach, I integrate the use of inquiry, insight, creative problem-solving, thoughtful self-reflection, hands-on "homework" assignments, and honest conversation. I will fully engage with you as a thought
partner
, a sounding board, and a confidential resource to help you alleviate stress and reach your potential.

I teach, consult and publish about the nature of the therapeutic
relationship
.
I have been in practice for 25 years and work in my private, comfortable home office. People find me easy to talk to and often say I have the right balance between empathy and challenging them when necessary. People come to therapy because they are having difficulties handling their emotions in their work (or school) and personal relationships.
As an Adult and Child Psychoanalyst, I have considerable experience working with a wide range of people from 3 years old and up to mature adulthood. I particularly like working with preschoolers, under-achieving "gifted" children, seemingly "lost" adolescents, adults and Seniors dealing with aging and retirement.

I work with adults, children,
couples
and families.
A lot of thought can go into choosing a therapist for you or your family member. Therapy starts with a unique personal
relationship
that has appropriate professional boundaries and allows you to explore your present dilemma and its
relationship
to your inner life. With children I use play and talk. With older adolescents and adults therapy is primarily verbal but it is always important to keep a sense of playful exploration even when facing difficult or painful issues. If this approach sounds right for you contact me to set up an initial visit. I am only working virtually via Zoom and no longer working with children under 12.

The most important factor in choosing a therapist or counselor, once you have established their credentials, is to select someone you are comfortable talking to. Research shows that the quality of the
relationship
can be more important to the outcome than the treatment modality. For this reason, I try to establish an understanding, collaborative and interactive approach, and I am happy to offer an initial phone consultation at no charge, before setting up our first meeting, You should always feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

I believe that individuals can improve their relationships and lives through insight and acceptance, and by changing problematic behaviors. I offer support and guidance by creating a collaborative, welcoming, and empathic therapy environment. The
relationship
between client and therapist is an important part of the work, and I pay close attention to this dynamic as therapy progresses. My clients are typically college students, adults, and parents looking for guidance. My approach is informed by Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) therapies, I also draw from other modalities to customize treatment to each individual's therapy goals.

CALL Office: Adults & Seniors: Individual & Couple: The imprint of trauma is psychological, body and brain memory long after the events are over, one continues to respond as if danger were ever present. The therapy mission is to bring this understanding of trauma to Adult and Seniors, via integrated psychotherapy, looking for answers to healing traumatic events. Healing is not just knowing what happened but transforming how Behavior, mind, & body, still store it. Trauma can reveal itself via depression, anxiety, despair, conflict ,lack of resolve, patterns of repetition ,worn out "survival mode defenses" from earlier times.

It is ultimately this
relationship
that gives clients the courage and strength to finally go out on their own.
I know how difficult it is to make that phone call and admit that you need help. Because of my personality, education and experience, I am able to make people feel comfortable to finally open up to someone and to let me help them. The quality of the therapeutic
relationship
is more important than any theoretical approach and it is this
relationship
that I focus on nurturing and it is this
relationship
that keeps clients coming back through the years, when they encounter hardships.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
